When I was younger and I was thinking about Senior year, I always thought it would be a great year. All of my important classes are done and I can take more classes that I actually want to learn about, or take less if I wanted to. Coming into Senior year, my expectations were met and I really started to believe that this would be the best year of my life. That lasted about a month. What I didn’t account for was that a few specific classes acquired more work and attention. “That was alright. I could handle the stress”, I said. Wrong. If it had been just those classes that I had to worry about, then I would have been able to handle it. But, yet again, I didn’t account for all the things that required my attention outside of school. Such as: looking for colleges, applying for colleges, what I want to do with my life, where am I going, etc.. I thought I could handle the stress, but I was wrong.
With just over a week left of the first semester, there are a lot more things that I need to get done. The two biggest classes that worry me right now are AP English and Senior Project. AP English is a never-ending flow of work and every time you think you’ll get a break, more things are assigned. As of right now, there isn’t much left to do before the end of the semester except a few essays, but it’s just extra work that I really don’t need right now. The real stressor is Senior Project. The stress and anxiety of getting everything done in time and passing is really taking a toll on my body. I can’t eat, I can’t sleep, and I’m about to crack. The problem was that I kept telling myself that it wasn’t a lot of work and I had plenty of time to lower my stress levels. Well, time’s about up and that technique will not help me. So, for anyone who has not taken Senior Project yet, I advise you to get as much as you can done early. You’ll have less stress to deal with when it comes time to end the semester. And for all the youngsters looking forward to Senior year, don’t. There is nothing special about. The only advice I would give was to get your work done as soon as you get it, and don’t slack off at the beginning of the semester otherwise you’ll be playing catch-up the whole time. Senior year stress will be the death of you.
