Senior Project and Senoritis for Future Seniors

Now I know that there have already been posts on here about senioritis and how not to get it, but has anyone thought about preparing you for the treacherous Senior Project?  Every year, all the seniors stress over passing the four very annoying parts of the Senior Project, research paper, presentation, product, and portfolio.  The fact that the senior project is the single most important thing required to graduate, having your graduation rely on one little project gets to be very stressful.

Senior project is split up into both semesters and if you have the first semester class you tend to be luckier that you have the entire 1st semester and the entire second semester to fix it if it does not pass the first time.  Unlike those who have senior project the second semester they have only about two weeks after they present to fix anything.  Now having both senioritis and senior project at the same time can be a killer, because you know you have to get your senior project done soon but you don’t have the energy or motivation to finish anything.

Senior project can be a pain in the butt because you have to find a topic in which you are passionate about, or you want to learn about, and you have to make magic with that topic.  You start off having to write a 7 to 11 page research paper and initially that’s what you have to pass to graduate.  If you don’t pass your paper first, you can’t present your product, presentation or portfolio. Once you get the ok on your paper, it’s time to buckle down and start shuffling through papers all the way back to freshmen year.  Your portfolio must consist of at least 16 different entries that relate to the Oak Hill Mission Statement, section dividers, table of content, and the binder has to be decorated to where reflects your most important things in the world to you.  In all honesty, I give a lot of my respect to those who had to deal with senior project during the second semester, because having to do all that, make sure you’re getting all caught up to pass all your classes, and have the senioritis kick in can be very stressful and overwhelming.

So for all of you that will deal with senior project up until they finally decided to get rid of it, I wish you all of luck that you chose a topic in which you can learn a lot about and write well about because an 11 page paper can be significantly hard to write unless it’s a topic you already know, are passionate about, or that is easy to learn about. Senior project is honestly not that hard, you just have to be motivated and prepared to deal with a lot of things on your plate that tend to be due around the same time. Either semester you have senior project can be hard, in the fall most students are dealing with college applications and getting accepted into colleges, and for second semester students senioritis hits big because it’s the end of the year, graduation stuff starts to become more important, and the summer slowly begins to crawl into site. Be busy with friends, sports and school, and don’t sit on that couch at home all day and play video games.

Good luck in your journey’s through senior year and enjoy it while it lasts you’ll regret living each and every moment of it to it’s fullest.
