How to Lace Braid!

A lace braid is a very simple and fun braid to try. I will be showing you how to preform the lace braid on another person. Once you have learned how to do it on another person, it will be easy to figure out how to do it on your own hair. The lace braid is like a french braid, but the hair is only added from the top. This braid is also a great start to learning more difficult braids. So find someone to practice with and enjoy!

1 split into 3
Step 1: Take a section of hair about 1 1/2 inches wide at the top of the head. This section should be taken from where the hair parts. Split into 3 even parts.
2 separate 3
Step 2: Get the 3 sections comfortable between the hands, I like to have 1 in the right and 2 in the left to start my braid.
3 ross right over
Step 3: Once the 3 strands are comfortable you’re going to cross the right strand over the center.
4 cross over left
Step 4: Now you’re going to cross the left strand over the center. At this point you should have 2 strands in the hand that originally had 1. (I started with 1 in my right hand and now I have 2 in my right hand.)
5 cross right add left
Step 5: Once again you’re going to take the right piece and cross it over the center piece. once you have completed that step, grab a section of hair from the top of the head, right next to the original section you parted off. This new section should be the same size as the 3 strands. Add this section into the left strand only.
6 left added cross over
Step 6: Take the left strand with the added hair and cross it over the center strand. *ONLY ADD HAIR FROM THE TOP*
7 cross right again
Step 7: Again, cross right over center and grab hair to add to the left strand.
8 add more to top left
Step 8: Now repeat steps 5-7. Cross right over center, add hair to left and cross left over center. (The hair being added to the left should be taken from the top of the head and to the side of the piece you grabbed before.

9 end
Step 9: Once the braid is the length you want, you will stop adding hair and just finish it with a regular three strand braid. I had the braid go from the front of the head around the side and ended on the opposite side of the back of the head. The braid should look like this once finished.

This looks so pretty! Out of curiosity is doing this kind of braid better if you have straight hair? Or could it look great on someone who has curly hair??

Great question! The braid can work on any head of hair, so yes you could do it on curly hair but, the braid is a little easier with straight hair. The reason it is easier with straight hair is that the curls will knot up as the pieces touch each other which may tangle the different strands and cause a small confusion. I say practice on straight hair, and then you can start with curly hair.
