The Monsters Under the Bed
She grabs my arm and cries, don’t leave me here alone.
I have checked under her bed twice, but she is afraid to let me go.
Her brother just had to tell her, the story of the monsters.
Making my life hard, as well as his two sisters.
I checked another time, just trying to ease her mind.
If I stayed she’s fall asleep, if I left she cried.
I used my mind to think, how do I get her to sleep.
I put monster repellent beside the bed, and sang her back to sleep.

Reasons Behind the Poem:
Babysitting a little girl who is afraid of monsters can be difficult. Every teenage babysitter struggles with getting kids like this to sleep. They always seem to know when you leave the room even if you believe they are dead asleep. Sometimes just making up something that can kill monsters will ease the minds of children who are afraid of whatever is under the bed, even if it is just water is a spray bottle. Children’s imagination is a very strong thing so the only way to ease their mind is for your imagination to be creative with getting rid of the monster. This poem is from a time I tried to get a little girl to bed who was afraid of these invisible monsters. The psycology of children is a very fascinating thing, they are so innocent, yet they can make up these monsters that scare them out of sleep.
