Book Review: The Maze Runner

I have just recently finished the book “The Maze Runner” by James Dashner and I was very impressed. In this book a boy finds himself waking up in a big metal box going up with no memories of how he got there or of his life at all except his for name, Thomas. When he finally gets to the top he finds himself in a world where he and a bunch of other boys are trapped in a maze. Thomas must find his place in this new world where he is filled with questions of what lies in the maze like, how will they escape, why are they here, who was Thomas really? This book is filled with mystery and adventure in a way you have never witnessed before.

I recommend this to anyone who likes action/ mystery books no matter their age or gender. To me, I feel like anyone could read this book and enjoy it. I think, if anything, some parents/ elderly people might not like this book because there are some violent scenes and some deaths. Other than that this book was very well made and it was interesting and kept me on my toes. This book had a way of pulling me in without even trying and making me feel like a part of the book. I felt like I was there in the Glade alongside the main character, Thomas, experiencing what he was feeling and seeing. I liked this book’s storyline and plot because it is original and I have not read any other books like it. I liked how this book was unpredictable to me because, personally, when I predict something correctly in a book I don’t feel accomplished. It makes me feel like I’m reading a book with the same plot of another book I read and it’s not exciting. When I get surprised from a book, no matter if I approve of what happened or not, it feels like I am not in control of where the book is going.

To me, this book felt like a mystery because these characters have been stuck trying to figure out how to escape the maze for two years. When I was reading it I caught myself also trying to figure out solutions that they could try and was pleasantly surprised when Thomas would ask and found out that the people who had been there longer had already tried it as well. In moments like that I felt like I was on the same page with Thomas and it made me feel like I could connect to his character. It also made me feel like I was communicating through Thomas trying to help the other Gladers. In all, it was a very enjoyable book.
