Almost everyone has heard the phrase “dumb blonde” or “having a blonde moment”. Most of the time these blonde jokes refer to females but if all blondes are labeled unintelligent, than males must be included. This familiar stereotype has no legitimate reason to be true. All people have a different level of knowledge. If a person is born healthy, there is no limit on the amount of knowledge they can retain. Just because a person is blonde does not mean their abilities are limited. Blondes are capable of gaining the same amount of wisdom as any other person with a different hair color.
Some make assumptions about the correlation between the level of eumelanin in one’s hair follicles and their intelligence. The amount of eumelanin in a person’s hair has nothing to do with their intelligence. A person with normal brain function can learn and understand anything they may choose to regardless of their hair color. Each person is capable of learning anything they want to no matter what their appearance looks like. The amount of time someone spends studying and educating herself definitely corresponds to how intelligent they are, not the color of their hair. If this stereotype were to be true then every single blonde, female or male would be much less intelligent than every brunette in the world. Hair color has nothing to do with how smart a person is. Life experiences and education are what really corresponds with how bright a person is.

I can really relate to this article, being a blonde. I have been called a “dumb blonde” since I was young, but I didn’t take it to heart, knowing it was a joke. But the stereotype is actually much more extensive than many people think. However, there is no way to say that every blonde is dumb, especially in today’s society where hair dying is popular. We can never tell who had what for a natural hair color. I’ll also bet a lot of money that there have been many blondes that have attended colleges for intellectuals, such as Harvard and Yale. Blondes have the potential to be just as smart as the smartest person in the world.
