The Man from Earth
If you are a strict “I won’t watch this movie unless its production costed $10 million dollars minimum” or “I wanna see at least 2 actors I know the name of and that those magazines at the shopping malls make lies about” than boy is this not the movie for you. Do not get me wrong this movie is absolutely a thriller, just maybe not the type you are used to. No car chases or gun battles, no expensive sets spreading across multiple nations, but rather a battle between yourself and your doubts.
Enter John Oldman (hilarious last name, took me to write this paper to get this joke) A college professor moving shop when his other college professor friends come over to visit for an impromptu going away get-together. John decides to play a game with his friends who let it be known all teach in different fields that help in the game. To explain his leaving John “pretends” that he is 14,000 years old and has a genetic ability where he doesn’t age, he continues with his story as his friends try to find a way it could be false or catch him in a lie. This 90 minute piece of cinema completely haunts your deep thoughts one might have for at least a week minimum. Symptoms include questioning if a 14,000 year old person is in fact possible and maybe there is one amongst us, staring at the ceiling in deep thought, and finally prolonged showers due to staring at the ceiling in deep thought. If you can stomach the fact this movie takes place entirely in a living room and is a conversation for 90 minute you are in for a treat, with A Man from Earth a movie I highly recommend.
