Looking ahead into the upcoming season the Terriers are said to be a threat in their league. Although they did lose a major player (senior pitcher Kelsey Crowe), Coach Parlin has great faith in the players coming off the bench and now sophomore pitcher Faith Robinson steps into the circle.
Robinson had a part time job last season as Crowe was out with an injury. This was suppose to be Crowe’s year, but instead, she broke her foot on the last play of a preseason practice, a season before. Coach Parlin believes that his team was really hurt by losing their star pitcher and one of their top hitters on the team. This setback lessened their chance of winning the conference, but they battled, just as Crowe was battling on the sideline.
Overall Crowe was hoping to avoid surgery, but then she broke the same bone in that same September, and finally succumbed to surgery. Meanwhile, at the time freshmen Faith Robinson had big shoes to step into. She did a creditable job in the circle, posting a 3.88 ERA (earned runs allowed) in 27 games. The plan was that the younger pitchers were going to come along slowly, get a few innings here and there, Crowe was going to lead the team, but once Crowe was out of the picture, the younger pitchers were thrown right into the mix, with no sudden warning.
Crowe didn’t enjoy sitting and on the sidelines, she didn’t like what she was seeing. She then decided to get her Master’s degree at Thomas and come back for her senior season. She said until the injury, she hadn’t thought about obtaining her Master’s.
As the injury and surgery progressed, walking normal again, was the common challenge for Crowe; pitching seemed to be out of the question. Dedication and heart got Crowe back in the circle, stronger than ever. For a girl a who’s never beaten Husson as a pitcher and never won a NAC tournament, she crossed a few of these items off her list. She did damage, even though a great deal of damage was done to her.
Crowe had a desire to play which is why she was so willing to come back an extra year and finish her senior year, strong. Players like this is what Coach Parlin desires to have. Players that have a willing character and a desire to play softball, as long as they possibly can. Coach says he is more than willing to have players like this on his roster, any year.
