Wrestling is a sport that takes a lot of preparation when it comes to getting ready for matches. There is so much that you have to do and that goes through you mind the day before and day of the match, the days before a big tournament can cause a lot of stress on a person because they have to make sure that they will make weight so they have to sacrifice certain things the few days before. When trying to make weight for a tournament you have to make sure you are within a few pounds a few days before, then you start cutting certain foods from you diet and eat less and drink less. When you run you make sure you sweat a lot but stay hydrated.
When it comes to the day of the match it starts to get stressful when preparing, you get up really early that morning and after a night of not eating you go and check your weight and if you are over that is when your workout begins. In order to make weight a lot of people go outside and start running, they run outside because it cools you down and you have to bundle up so your body is working harder to stay warm then when you get inside you start to sweat a lot because you are bundled up and your body is trying to get back to normal temperature. Then comes the weight-ins where you either make weight and wrestle or you don’t and that whole week was wasted.

I really agree with you on this one L– preparation is the key to being successful when it comes to sports. I know from experience from when I used to play sports they always had us warm up and do certain drills before we go into things. I know for a fact before I do PT in the Army I will not exercise until I have stretched and in order to be ready you have to prepare and get ready!!
This does make a lot of sense, because before a game, you have warm ups/pre-games in order to prepare yourself for the game. Granted, you are not in the same game situations, or maybe you could make similar game situations, but overall if you are not prepared for a game, or even a test, you will most likely not do well in that game, or on that test.
Wrestling seems like it would be a very fun sport, but does a lot of people not make weight class the day of the meet?
From watching some meets wrestling seems like a very hardcore sport. The only thing I don’t like is the fact that sometimes people have to cut back on food or not eat completely which can ruin a persons health and drive them towards anorexia.
I agree with Amber, the nutrition that you do not get before a meet can really effect your body drastically. Say you did not cut at all and stayed healthy but wrestled up a class do you think the chances of you winning would be better since your body would have more energy and nutrition in it?
