Crafts are a simple and fun thing that kids love to do and can take up lots of time. It is also an inexpensive way to keep kids busy without breaking the budget.
First take some time out of your day and go online and do some research. You can go on Pinterest and look up tons of different kids crafts to do. There is many different things like makes things out of pipe cleaners, to making puffy ice cream cones (really good summer activity). Just go on line, pick a craft with the kids, and go to the store.
Now before you go to a craft store, I would make a list of all the stuff you need so you don’t forget anything! I would also go to a dollar store or even Walmart to see if you can pick up some stuff for cheaper than spending an arm and a leg at your craft store in the area. If you can find most everything at the dollar store or Walmart, get it to save some money. Then you can head to your craft store and pick up whatever else you need. Here is an example.
Puffy Paint Ice Cream Cone
List of stuff you will need:
Plain paper, small bowl, shaving cream, elmers glue, paint brush, food coloring, brown paper bag, black and red marker, and scissors.
Directions:
In the small bowl, fill the bottom with elmers glue just enough to cover the bottom. Then take your shaving cream and fill the bowl up. Mix with your paint brush.
Than take your food coloring depending on the “flavor” of ice cream you want, and squirt as much needed to get the desired color. Mix again with your paint brush.
Cut your brown paper bag in a shape of an ice cream cone, and take the black marker and draw diagonal line to make it look like an ice cream cone. Than take your elmers glue and glue it onto the plain piece of paper.
Then take your “ice cream” and paint in on the paper in round circles to make it look like ice cream. You can also cut little pieces of the brown bag and place them in the “ice cream” to look like chocolate chips.
You can then take the red marker and drawn a red circle with a stem on the top of the ice cream to mimic a cherry.
Something like this won’t break the bank, and can give kids something to do that really fun.

Reading this reminded me a lot of my childhood and it was great to revisit some of the great memories I have of spending time with my parents doing arts and crafts. I wonder if this would be better for a more mature audience though because not many of us teenagers have children.
This is a really cool idea, it is good to know about some good arts an crafts if you need to occupy a few children for a little while.
