Loved In All Shapes and Sizes

An elliptical gem is a saying I often like to use when I refer to one of the most magnificent fruits of all, the watermelon. Consisting of 90% water and as heavy as a toddler at times, this fruit holds its own as a contributor to the nutrition and fun brought at summer parties and get-togethers. The shape is inviting and the taste is remarkable. One of the most interesting things about the watermelon is that it is classified as a fruit and a vegetable. It belongs to the cucumber and squash family while continuing to be a fruit that is sweet and full of seeds. The history of the watermelon goes back to ancient times and has been a widely celebrated fruit in the United States for a long time. July is the month where watermelons grow to their peak which makes summertime the best time to enjoy this great food.

Watermelons are grown from the ground and are commonly found in commercial farms around the world. Florida is one of the leading states for producing watermelons each year in the United States. Watermelons vary in sizes and shapes like many other fruits and vegetables. The watermelon can grow to be over 200 pounds! Watermelons also contain high amounts of vitamins and antioxidants which benefit the body greatly. Their outer shell usually has a green color to it. However, some watermelons have been grown to be yellow.

My experiences with watermelons have been great over the years. I have enjoyed time with my family and friends while munching on a delicious and healthy treat. Watermelons really are one of the greatest fruits of all time. While they could be called a vegetable they still belong to the fruit family as well. They will continue to be a loved fruit in our country and all over the world for many years to come. The watermelon is a great fruit.

So in a sense the watermelon is kind of like a tomato, because it can be considered a fruit and a vegetable.

Once again your description made me laugh and this article holds some interesting facts, I didn’t know that a watermelon could grow up and weigh 200 pounds! I also didn’t know that it was considered a fruit and vegetable but it makes sense now that I think about it. Why is it a celebrated fruit or is it just a fruit that we celebrate with? Also how long have watermelons been around and where did they first originate?

This is a very interesting article. How can a watermelon be a fruit and a vegetable at the same time? What is the best way to cut up a watermelon?
