Four Strand Braid

A four strand braid is a very fun and easy braid to make. By weaving each strand with the others you create a nice look.  Long hair works the best for this braid because the weave does take up a lot of hair.

When starting your braid you need a clean section that is knot free. Your section can be any size you would like. I used a smaller section just to practice with.

2) Next split the section of hair you're using into four even sections, hold them apart from each other and make sure you keep track on which piece is which.

3) Start with the farthest left piece, you're going to cross that piece OVER the next. (Remember that you cross the farthest piece over because you'll need to know that for the rest of the braid.
3) Start with the farthest left piece, you’re going to cross that piece OVER the next. (Remember that you cross the farthest piece over because you’ll need to know that for the rest of the braid.
4) Now take the same piece that you crossed over and cross is UNDER the next piece. This creates the weave look by crossing over than under.
4) Now take the same piece that you crossed over and cross is UNDER the next piece. This creates the weave look by crossing over than under.
5) Just like you did for step one, you will take the same piece and cross it over the last and hold it there. Now when you look at the braid the piece you used to weave that started on the left is now your last piece.
5) Just like you did for step one, you will take the same piece and cross it over the last and hold it there. Now when you look at the braid the piece you used to weave that started on the left is now your last piece.
6) Those are the basic steps to the braid and you just need to repeat them through out the entire braid until you reach the end of your hair. So take the new left piece and cross over, under, and over again.

7) After you strand the braid for maybe 7 stitches and you should have a braid that looks like this! This braid works best on longer hair.

This looks very difficult to do, but it’s really cool that you have the understanding to not only do it yourself, but explaining to others how to do it as well.

If you learn how to do this with 4 strands, is it a lot different technique to add more strands?

Was it really hard to learn this?

It is actually very easy to do, once you learn, it should not be too long before you have the technique. You would use the same technique if you add more strands as well, so if you wanted a 6-strand braid you would still weave the hair through and get the same look just larger. No it was not hard to learn at all.

How did you learn how to do this? Did someone else teach you, did you watch a video or did you teach yourself?

I saw someone else doing it once and I watched them and then later I looked it up online to see how exactly it was done. I am very good a reading or watching something and being able to copy it.

This is a really cool post and I like how you set up the instructions, it gives me a good idea of how to practice. How long did it take you to learn how to do it and can you do it to your own hair or just other people.

Thank you! It took me about 10 minutes to learn it and I can do it on my hair. I like to use it as a way to pull back my hair in the front and give it a better look that just slicked back hair and a bobby pin.

This braid looks like it would be challenging, but the way you explain and show the steps is really helpful. It’s a really pretty braid and will definitely be trying it when my hair get’s longer!
