Sushi

If you’ve never had sushi before, it can be intimidating to order. Your experience can be positive if the sushi is prepared right and you know how to eat it. Here are some tips that will help you to enjoy your first sushi experience.  There are many sushi restaurants around but finding the right one is crucial. If the restaurant doesn’t use quality fish, you may never want to eat sushi again. Be sure to ask friends and family for suggestions. At most sushi restaurants, they serve the common four kinds of sushi; sashimi, nigiri, maki, and temaki. They all contain raw fish but are served differently. The most common is maki, also known as the “sushi roll.” It contains a type of fish and vegetable that is rolled with rice in a sheet of seaweed. It is then cut into bite-sized portions. This is recommended for beginners who have never tried sushi before.

Sushi is delicious plain but can be even better with the right condiments. Most sushi is served with wasabi, ginger and soy sauce. Wasabi is a spicy, green paste. Pickled ginger is meant to eat between bites to cleanse the palate. The soy sauce adds just the right amount of flavor. There are many types of fish offered at sushi restaurants. They range from salmon and tuna to eel and octopus. If the thought of raw fish turns you off, sushi can also be made using cooked shrimp. So if you’re feeling adventurous, take a trip to your local sushi bar. Order whatever sounds good and enjoy.

Sushi is my favorite – especially California rolls. The best sushi restaurant I think is Bua Tai, right in Lewiston. I also think avocado that is included in the sushi is really great. What is your favorite sushi to eat? 🙂

I have yet to eat a full meal of sushi. Im not sure if I would like it but your description and suggestions make it worth trying! Can the raw fish be bad for a person or is the nutrition good?

I really want to try sushi, but I just cannot stand the avocado in most. Is there something you think could be used to replace it? Or would just removing it not affect it in anyway? I might have to try it again sometime with the different condiments you mentioned in the post!

This is a great post. Honestly, I eat sushi quite a bit but was not sure about everything that was in sushi! This post was very informative because I thought sushi was only served in a roll rather than having a variety of ways to serve it. What are the best places in Maine to eat sushi?

I love sushi especially the crazy trifish from sea 40. I didn’t know that the ginger was to eat in between to clean the palate. That is really good to know and I will probably try that next time.

I love sushi!! You did a great job explaining everything about sushi and all the different kinds they have. I like how you explained the condiments that come with it and what you do with them. To reply to most of the comments. Yes, Bua Thai is the best place to get sushi at a good price and you get a good amount. Great work!
