Snake Braid

A snake braid is a lot easier than it looks! It is a very easy way to spice up a hair style or to even get your bangs out of the way.  The braid works best with smaller sections of hair. You could use the entire head of hair, but the braid will come out bunched and look more like a knot.

When starting your braid you need a clean section that is knot free. Your section can be any size you would like. I used a smaller section just to practice with.

Now split the hair into 3 even sections. Use these 3 sections and make a tradition 3 strand braid to the end of the hair. *DO NOT MAKE IT TOO TIGHT*

The braid should look like this once you have finished the 3 strand piece. Make sure it is not too tight for you're going to have to move pieces around.

Okay now you need to look closely. You're going to take the end of your braid, and hold onto the center piece very tight. This piece will not move, the other two pieces will be held together. As you can see in the picture I am holding the center piece firm with my pointer finger and middle finger while the other two pieces are between my pointer finger and my thumb. You will need to keep the two pieces and the center piece separate.

Now take the two outside pieces that are held together and start to push them up. By holding the center piece firm and straight the outside pieces will easily slide up and start to created a link look.

Push the two pieces all the way to the top of the hair. As you can see in the picture the two strands are bunched up at the top and held together while the long strand is the original center piece.

Finally, take the two strands that were pushed up to the top of the center strand and gently push them back down only a little! By doing this you get the snake braid. If you push the pieces all the way down it will be back to a traditional 3 strand braid. Now you can secure it with a hair tie or a bobby pin and place it where ever you would like.

This looks so cool! Also it looks like it would be so hard to do, but you explained it in a really good and easy way to understand.

This braid looks so easy to make! It’s crazy how such a simple braid could turn out to look so much more complex. Just one question: Would you be able to braid all of your hair with this braid? Or is this style strictly to make accents in the hair?

What a cool and different way to braid your hair! I am really bad at hair but this would be easy for me because of the way it was explained! Great job!

Good post Hannah! You have always been great at doing hair for as long as I can remember. You show great patience and precision when doing hair. Have you ever thought about making hair your profession?
