Hated Fish Until I Came Across This Recipe

What you’ll need for Fish

  • Panko breading
  • oil
  • cookie sheet pan covered in foil
  • egg
  • milk

You’ll use the egg and milk to make a wash for the fish so that the panko breading will stick while they are baking. You can use any fish type for this recipe but I used Tilapia. You take the fishes and dip it in the wash, then you dip it in the panko and onto the cookie sheet it goes. Repeating the process for how ever many fish pieces you have.  With the oven on 350, it was baked for about 30-40 minutes. Depending on how crispy you want it, you can adjust the timing.

What you’ll need for Garlic Fried Sugar Snap Peas

  • sugar snap peas
  • 4 cloves of garlic, minced
  • butter
  • 1 tbsp oil

You’ll need a medium sized pan over medium heat add the oil on the bottom first with some garlic to start the garlic aroma, then you can add the sugar snap peas and the rest of the garlic and butter. You’re going to want to let this sit for a little while so that the peas can brown up a little, but be careful not to burn them because it’s a fine line between. Once one side is browned up you can flip them over, remember though, not all of them will be browned and that’s okay, it’s more about flavor than texture. Not long after that they should be done, cooking them too long will make them mushy.

What you’ll need for Rice Pilaf

  • 2 tbsp butter
  • ½ cup orzo pasta
  • ½ cup diced onions
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • ½ cup uncooked white rice
  • 2 cups chicken broth

You’ll need a medium sized pan over medium/low heat melting the butter and then frying the orzo pasta until golden brown. Then you add the onion and garlic stirring for a minute just to cook it down a little. Then we’ll mix in the rice and chicken broth increasing the heat to high and bring it to a boil. Once boiling, reduce the heat to medium-low and simmer until the rice is tender and the liquid is absorbed ( Which usually takes about 20-25 minutes) Remove from heat for five minutes and then fluff with a fork when ready to serve.

I usually hate fish, I hate the taste, the smell…until I came across this recipe for crunchy panko breading. This has been the one exception to my fish distaste. While accompanied by fried sugar snaps and rice it’s actually quite delicious. Although, I’ve been brought up on fried sugar snap peas since I was a kid, they’re garlicky deliciousness. If you don’t take anything from this, at least try the peas! Its heaven on Earth. After tasting the fish, it doesn’t taste like fish, it tastes like buttery goodness. Which was quite surprising for me considering the last time I tried fish, I literally gag. Literally that is how strong my distaste was, but with this recipe…who knows? The world might be opening up for me to try new things.
