"Body Diamond" by Great Good Fine OK

Great Good Fine OK is a synth-pop group based out of New York City. The group is made up of Jon Sandler and Luke Moellman, both growing up in different parts of upstate New York. The duo met in Brooklyn when they lived around the corner from each other. The duo first released the song “You’re The One For Me” in 2013 and it had major online popularity reaching number one on Hype Machine, a music database, twice in one month. The band soon signed on with Epic records, which is a division of Sony music, and Warner/Chappell Music Inc., a music publishing company and division of Warner Music Group.

In 2014 after signing with Epic Records Great Good Fine Ok released their first album “Body Diamond”  on October 27th. The album has a Synth-pop feel with electro influences which combined together with the soft vocals of Sandler created an album out of a hipster’s dream. The group’s musical inspirations are Whitney Houston and Michael Jackson, which is shown best on the disco RnB track “By My Side”. The biggest fear of the group is to be typecast in one genre showing that the group’s next album could be vastly different.

The songs on the album “Body Diamond” were mostly relating to relationships with some being about falling in love and some about falling out of love. The song “You’re the one for me” was very much so about being in love with someone who is far away. The lyrics “I’m gonna love you, love, I’m gonna love you till you’re here” show that while the love interest is far away the singer is going to love them still. Another song that shows an opposite message is “Say It All” which shows the breaking up of a relationship. The beginning of the song starts out saying “It’s summer, but no one’s calling, Cause somewhere there’s something new, And you wait for someone special, Sit around while I think this whole thing through, I wonder if someone would get me.” showing that the couple has broken up and are both waiting for someone new to arrive to fix their pain. The song is all about letting go of the failed relationship and the lyric “I release my faith and all my pain will come to help me” shows that theme best.

The Album has two songs to go with it but the one that was the most fascinating was the music video for the second track on the album “Not Going Home”. The music video chronicles a couple’s adventure, selfie style. The couple, Stephen and Sammy, traveled around the world listening to the song and their journey fits the song perfectly. The traveled and listened to the song through all 24 different time zones in 31 days.

The album had an electro synthpop vibe and was somehow both a good album to dance or relax to. My favorite songs were “Not Going Home” and “By My Side” and I recommend giving them a listen.
