Smoothies are one of the latest trends in meal replacement and weight loss techniques. While there are a lot of great recipes out there, you do have to be careful that you are not working against yourself. What makes smoothies so popular is being able to get a large amount of your fruits and vegetables together in one place. It is recommended that we receive at least 5 servings of fruits and vegetables every day. A smoothie can help with that however, you have to be care that you are not also taking in too many sugars or adding extra calories to your day because your smoothie did not fill you up.
How to Make A Smoothie
Choose your fruits and vegetables. Choose fresh whenever possible but be sure to always wash them.
Choose your liquid base. Coconut water or almond milk work well and add great flavor to any combination. Be careful if you are using juices like orange juice are often considered healthy but are very high in sugars.
Choose a thickener. Peanut butter, a frozen banana, or greek yogurt are all great ideas and work well with most any flavor combination. Using items like peanut butter or greek yogurt also help to add protein to the smoothie. Smoothies high in fiber and protein will help to keep you satisfied for a longer amount of time.
Choose a flavor booster. Adding baking cocoa, nutmeg, cinnamon or other spices can help give your smoothie a kick.
Add a bit of ice to your blender (if desired) and blend away!
½ cup almond milk ( I used chocolate but I think vanilla would be even better)
½ cup fresh blueberries
1 cup fresh strawberries with green part cut off
6 oz of Greek yogurt ( I used vanilla but I think strawberry would be good too)
Put all ingredients into your blender and blend. You can also add ice which will help to thicken and make it colder. YUM!
