The shipping of parts purchased over the internet is a big concern in car modification culture. This also ties back into the price that you pay for parts, when you pay more money for parts then you probably are going to get better packaging for your parts. Take for example fuel pumps for fuel injection systems. For this I have an inline fuel pump made by Trick Flow for general purpose, and a have a factory Nissan fuel pump bought from a dealer. When you open the box on the trick flow fuel pump the first thing that is noticed is that there is a strong aroma of gas coming from the box. The as you look in the box it is seen that there is a perfect cutout of spongy foam and a coil of wires that include a relay and a switch. When the box from the factory Nissan fuel pump was opened the same aroma of gas lofts from the box the second thing that is noticed is that the pacing for this one isn’t as nice. Instead of having a piece of fitted foam for the pump, the box is just stuffed with crumpled up strands of paper.
Another example of good shipping vs bad shipping is the headlights mentioned in the last post. When both of those boxes were opened the differences in packing were noticed almost immediately. The more expensive lights were tightly packed in a fitted cardboard box that solidly held them in their place. The other set were shipped in a black cardboard box that had a piece of foam in it, that piece of foam had 2 circles cut out of it to hold the lamps in. Yet effective the housings had no protection like the other ones did. But this is expected when you pay less for a product. The manufacturer’s take out of the build quality of the means of shipping so that they can charge less on the other end and make more money in the long run. So when it comes to shipping so much like everything else you pay for the quality of the product. Either you’re buying a race ready fuel pump that will work at the highest speeds or you buy the factory replacement that will only handle the factory setting, it pays off to spare a little more money to pay for the good stuff
