Tree Mishap
January 5, 2018 / Uncategorized / 2 comments/ jblack18I have a family member who ownes a district of a very popular delivery service called FedEx, his name is Andy. One day while Andy was working he got a call from one of his employees, Ralph, explaining how he had been backing into a driveway with a company vehicle and “slid” into a tree when he pressed the brakes. After having several conversations with Ralph about other events that happened, Andy had his doubts about Ralphs “accident”. After several minutes of Andy questioning Ralphs story and recieving pictures of tire marks, Ralph still stuck to his story and Andy was getting irritated because he knew the story he was hearing wasnt true, all he wanted to know was the truth. Ralph was very worried he was going to lose his job for totaling the van but little did he know that telling the truth was actually going to save his job.
After sticking with his story for a couple hours something changed he weighed out the outcomes and his story changed as well. He then changed his story from sliding to trying to get momentum and then not having time to stop and went right into a tree. Andy wasn’t fooled by the lie from the beginning, he knew from how Ralph was telling the story that there was something missing. After talking to Ralph more about the situation he confessed that he had been on the phone but offered to pay for the damages done. Since then Ralph has been honest and takes the time to listen and comprehend the situation before jumping to a conclusion. He has become one of the best employees Andy has and has had several pay raises since. He has come to understand that trying to change a bad situation wont always work out good and its just easier to fess up to your mistakes. Sometimes you wont necessarily get let off and you may get in trouble but its better to tell the truth than lie, there is always a way to pick apart a lie.
Ralph could have lost his job that day, but he didn’t because he decided to tell the truth about what happened to his van. He learned a very valuable life lesson that day and it has changed his personality for the better. he straightened out his marriage, became a very important role at his job and is happy with his new self. This goes to show that trying to lie your way out of a tough situation isn’t always the best, his boss could have fired him, but he didn’t because he owned up to his mistakes and to his boss that showed a new level of maturity. Rather then lying to cover yourself why not tell the truth, it may not always be the perfect outcome but its better than having a lie then could be seen through. By telling the truth you can learn how to fix what you did so you don’t make the same mistake again. It builds trust between you and others, if you tell them you messed up they are more likely to not question you when you tell them stuff and that makes life way easier. You may learn better ways to handle the situations and you may even keep your job. What i have learned for this situation is that if you are honest from the beginning you are better off than trying to cover up after yourself. I am reminded f this occasion all the time and it often times reminds me to own up to my mistakes.

This is an awesome example of how honesty can always be the best policy. I also like how you included how he sent pictures of tire marks.
Being honest with yourself does payoff and make the situation better, if you lie all it does is make it worse in the long run. This is very well written and shows it clear that being honest is always the right answer no matter what the situation is.
