Bad opening night

Resilience by exact definition is, ¨have the ability to recover from or adjust to misfortune or change¨. I’m gonna tell you a story on how I did just that. It was a normal night at the high school for the winter, everyone was there to watch the basketball game. We were finishing warm ups and getting introduced. Then came the long and anticipated tipoff, we got the ball of the tip and then Darryn quickly got the ball and passed it up to me.When I caught the ball on the wing on the right hand side of the court, I went to go pass the ball to my teammate cutting and ¨bamm¨ down I went like a sack of potatoes. It was instant pain. When I went down with the injury one thing just kept going through my head. ¨my season is over and this is the first game of the season.” I knew it was gonna be hard to get back out there but I had to be aware of everything and think of every solution and idea I could try to hep me.

I stayed down on the court for atleast 5 minutes holding my knee. I was thinking to myself that I need to find a way to continue playing even though my knee was in a lot of pain. When I finally made it back to the bench I started to calm down and take deep breaths. The athletic trainer was saying how it was a mcl injury, and I almost busted out in tears. But then she said “it just seems like a tweek and it will probably swell a little.” That made me feel a lot better.

When I found out my knee injury wasn´t as bad as i thought i knew that I could be resilient and problem solve and get back out there on the hardwood . I was stretching it out but it still hurt very badly I knew it probably wasn’t the smartest decision to go back in but I love this game so much and it is my last year ever playing it in my carrear.

Everyone was mad when they came into the locker room saying how we are loosing and I got up and said, ” we got this we just gotta play hard and leave it all on the court.” They were telling me that I need to not come back incase it gets worse but they knew I wasn´t gonna miss a big game like this so they just said to take it easy and if it gets any wore ask for a sub. They knew I was more resilient than that and that even though something bad happend I would over come it.

So I went back in the game after halftime but I was taking it easy on my left leg and I was pacing myself so it wouldn´t make the pain that much worse. That shows resilience. I thought my season was over and I wouldn´t play anymore but I stretched it out and sucked it up and went back out there for my team. I problem solved and went over the situation at hand and came up with ways that I could make it work for me to get back in the game and I did. I had to come over adversity and I did and I didn´t make the injury worse.
