Doing nice things

Last summer I was riding my dirt bike with my cousin, Trevor and we were on the trails out back of his house. It had just recently rained and it was pretty muddy out there, I almost got stuck one time but I somehow managed to get out of it in one piece. When my turn was up I stopped, and let him get on so he could go out on the trail. He was driving pretty fast in and out of trees I could see him, the second time around when I was on my phone not paying attention I couldn’t see him at all. The timer was sounding and he isn’t back yet and I couldn’t hear the loud dirt bike in the distance. I went over to the four-wheeler and got on it so fast I forgot to put on my helmet. When I was going through the trail I could see the red dirt bike laying in the mud but I couldn’t see Trevor. When I got to the bike It wasn’t good at all. It look like he got flung right off the bike like a bull in a rodeo. When I ran over to see him he looked bad, his legs were cut up and he was holding his arm very tightly. I said to him, “is your arm hurt bad?” He responded with a shot answers, “yes.” At this time I knew I needed to get him out of the woods and back to the house for his parents to check on him and maybe take him to the doctors.

When we got back to the house I ran him inside saying “Trevor is hurt and it could be bad.” When I gave him to his parents I didn’t know what to do. It was my dirt bike and they didn’t know that we were out on the trails, so basically it was my fault for letting him go out there and if he hadn’t gone out there this wouldn’t have happened. I knew him arm was hurt bad and could possibly be broken. His parents said to each other “we need to take him to be checked out right now, his arm is probably broken.” I knew I was in big trouble.

When we got in the car I was saying how sorry I was to everyone and they said “It’s ok Cohen, it was just an accident.” But I couldn’t just accept that, I knew it was my fault and he most likely wouldn’t be playing baseball due to this incident. We arrived at the hospital and Trevor and his parents were seen right away, I was in the waiting room waiting for some news. About 10 minutes later his mom came out and said to me, “Cohen I know you think that this is your fault but it isn’t, we want to thank you for handling this right and getting him back to us as soon as you could. It could have been a lot worse if he was out there longer but you got him to us fast.” I didn’t know what to say, I mean it was kinda my fault for going on the trails but I didn’t know this was going to happen it was just supposed to be us having fun and riding. After Trevor was put in a sling he came up to me and said, “Thank you for coming to look for me if you didn’t think could have been a lot worse, you got me to my parents really quick and that meant a lot and shows how brave you are.” I said quickly, “you’re welcome and I’m sorry that this happened next time we go riding we can go together and we can get each others backs.” He smiled and said “hopefully my cast won’t be on to long!”

A couple of summers ago I was hanging out with my friend Kohl at his house. We were getting ready to go out for a walk in the woods to go hunting for squirrels. When we got up to the woods we saw a squirrel right away. We missed. As we kept walking up the very large hill I stepped in a hole and twisted my ankle. I went down like a sack of potatoes. Kohl came running over and said “What happened?” I said back quickly in pain, “I fell in this stupid hole and twisted my ankle.” We were just about at the top of the large and steep hill and we knew we were in trouble. We had to make it down the hill and it hurt me to even put pressure on my left ankle.

Kohl acted fast and said “here put your arm around me and we will walk down together.” As we started our way down the mountain like hill we kept having to stop because I was hitting my foot off the stumps. I knew we had to keep going though no matter how much it hurt because it would be better than stopping and going and it hurting worse. When we almost hit the bottom Kohl said “we can rest here for a couple of minutes then we can make the home stretch in about 5 minutes if we keep going then you can go sit and put your ankle up.” I knew that sounded better than out here still in pain hitting it my ankle off stumps and rocks.

We could see his house but at the time it still felt so far away, we were both dog tired, especially him because he had all of my weight on him basically. Finally we were at his house and I sat down on the couch with my foot lifted up with ice on it. When Kohl came back to the living room I said, “Thanks for getting me down that hill that we just climbed haha.” He said laughingly, “You’re welcome but next time please don’t get hurt next time so we can get a squirrel!”

At the end of these two stories luckily they ended up being good endings, although they didn’t start the best with them both including injuries we worked together and we fixed the problem. The first story it was me helping my cousin and then the second story it was me getting helped.
