Laughter is something that everyone experiences even before we can walk or talk. Laughter may sometimes bring others together or push them apart. For me I found my best friend through laughter. Sometimes just talking a long walk on the beach at night with people you never thought you would hangout with can really change your life. Previously I had been a person who never really thought about giving new people a chance and I certainly never thought I would be walking on the beach alone at night gazing at the stars and cracking jokes with someone I barely talked to.
During the summer of my sophomore year I went to Old Orchard beach with my best friend Austin, when I was there I got the chance to hang out with people I probably wouldn’t have hung out with at school. When I hung out with these people I noticed that they were actually really funny and that I could be myself around them. You wouldn’t really think that Alexis being a smart, funny, and talented girl would get along so well with guys like me and Austin who are brutally honest and have a dirty sense of humor. Normally it takes me a lot of time to open up to people but because of the laughter that surrounded me it was different. Finally after being around Alexis for ten minutes we were able to be ourselves.
As I began to open up a little with Alexis and take risks like going for a walk or sharing some personal questions I feel like we actually kind of connected. But when we really connected was when we laughed our asses off. It amazed me how Alexis had the kind of laugh that would make other people laugh because it was so funny, this was definitely something that made me like being around her. Alexis, and I later that night took a long walk on the beach. Then it all happened we were telling the funniest stories and ended up falling over laughing on the ground. It is pretty crazy how the moon or just the night can really affect some people. After hanging out with Alexis for the entire weekend at OOB realized that I would really like to keep talking to her because we both shared the same type of humor. It is really awesome how one joke can lead to so much laughter and a great friend you never thought you would have. Today I am still friends with Alexis in fact we are even dating and we still share funny jokes with each other whenever we find a new one.
Because of the laughter that surrounded me and my friends that Saturday night in OOB my sophomore year I was able to become close with someone who I truly love. Laughter really does make relationships and not just any relationship but strong relationships. Now anyone I meet I try to share laughter with them and see where it takes us.
