Experiences, and Lessons

As most of you know, I’m new to this school this year. I don’t really have too many memories at this school. Most of them remain at Mount Ararat High School in Topsham. There’s a lot that has happened. Surprisingly to most, I’ve only gotten 3 detentions in all of High School. I seem to get them once a year, all around the same time.. My birthday.

I only remember the detention I got my Freshman year. It was a very warm, and just a plain uncomfortable day. It was extremely humid outside. Quite odd for late March. We were all hyper because it was warm out. A couple of my friends and I were on the bus on our way to our houses. We had a substitute bus driver so we didn’t really care about anything. The thoughts going through my mind were, “she probably can’t hear us anyway. She’s like, ancient.” Someone gave my friend Tyler like four boxes of dried cranberries, also known as crasins. He then gave one to me, and some to two other friends. One of us threw a crasin at someone as a joke. After that, things got pretty messy. It was a raging food fight practically. Long story short, we all got detentions that we proudly served, because the entire situation was hilarious. The moral of this story is, don’t think you can get away with anything. And remember that with anything you do, there’s always a consequence.

I wish I learned that lesson through all of my high school career. I’ve only learned it during my last two weeks. It was a lesson that needs to be learned a lot earlier. But what else is high school about other than education? Living and learning. A lot of people choose to ignore that. They get in trouble, but think that maybe if they did something differently next time, they could get away with it. High school is about getting the education you need to live a sustainable and successful life, as well as learning important life lessons for when you go out into the real world. Learning from mistakes is one of the most important ones.

Personally, I had a problem with that. Since Freshman year, I’ve always done my work last minute and barely made it through to pass, as well as goofing off and being stupid. It was tough. This experience really opened up my eyes, and made me aware that any action I do, any word I say, could be used against me if need be. No matter what anyone does, there’s always a consequence that follows.  I always told myself the next year that I will do better and get all my work done on time and behave. Well, look where that got me! Here I am, busting my butt to pass Senior year and graduate. Looking back, I really wish I learned from the mistakes of procrastinating everything, and trying to have fun when I shouldn’t have. In the end, I just got in trouble for it and it wasn’t worth it. I would be a lot better off, and things would’ve been a lot more easier and less stressful. Hopefully I can still learn, and not be like this out in the real world. If people procrastinate and do everything at the last minute out there, you’ll go nowhere real quick. So take it from me. Do everything on time, focus when you’re supposed to, and save the fun for a different time when you have a bigger priority on your hands, like school, or work.

I can relate to this completely because that’s how I was throughout high school. Telling myself to do better next year and the year after. I am happy that you have made new friends at this school though! At least you won’t have to deal with anymore detentions now!
