A time I was afraid to ask a foolish question would be anytime it had to be anything that had to do with my car. There are multiples times where I was afraid to ask a question about my car because since I have had my license for almost two years I should know by now about some of these simple questions about my car.
A time I was afraid to ask a foolish question was when I was scared to ask how to turn on my windshield washer to clean my windshield in my car. For about 3 or 4 months after I got my car I didn’t know how to use my windshield washer so after awhile I decided to ask my friend, which was pretty embarrassing because we were both driving on our way back home late at night and it was getting pretty foggy out, and my windshield was starting to fog up and it didn’t help that it was already a bit dirty. So while she was in the car ahead of me driving I couldn’t take it anymore since I couldn’t see so I flashed my high beams at her a few times then pulled over. Eventually she also pulled over and she came over and asked whats wrong and I was like “well, do you think you can tell me how to turn on my windshield washer,” she started to laugh and showed me how.
I don’t know why it took me so long to just speak up and ask a simple question that sounded so embarrassing to ask since I’ve had my license for 3 to 4 months, but eventually I did it. It was a little bit embarrassing at first to ask about how to turn on my windshield washer, but I knew if I just asked instead it wouldn’t be so embarrassing as I thought it was. Besides it would be less dangerous if I was able to see through my windshield. If I didn’t ask thing could of gone bad.
Another time I had another embarrassing moment where I was afraid to ask a foolish question about my car was when I couldn’t figure out how to get my key to turn to start my car. After school I was in my car getting ready to leave and I was trying to turn it on but it wouldn’t, nor could I get it out. After a few minutes of trying to solve the problem myself I gave up and called my dad like I always do since when I run into a car problem. I always seem to turn to my dad because he is a mechanic and besides he has more common sense than I do. When I did he was confused at first, so I explained to him that I couldn’t get it out either so he told me to step on the break a bit then try turning it on. When I tried that it got the key to come out but it still didn’t turn on then I realized my car was still in reverse since this morning.
When I told my dad about this problem I had I was afraid to ask him because I didn’t know how he would react to it. Because who knows what could of happened since my car was in reverse all day and I know he would give me crap for that. But once I told him I felt better about it because I could finally leave school, but I was still a bit embarrassed because I left my car in reverse which was a pretty dumb mistake of mine because who knows what could of happened while I was still in school.
I learned that it isn’t so scary to ask foolish questions such as how to turn on my windshield washer or how to fix the situation with turning on my car and getting the key that was stuck in the ignition of my car. I learned I would of never fixed these issues if I didn’t speak up and ask, because who knew what could of happened. A lot of things could of happened with my car which could make my problem even worse. I also learned its best to learn from my mistakes or lack of knowledge from something by asking foolish questions because once I ask its over with and I will never have to be embarrassed to answer that question again, and I end up learning something useful from my foolish questions.
