There have been many times where I’ve taken a small issue or problem very seriously, even if it didn’t need to be taken that seriously. To be more specific, I lost the four wheel drive in my 2001 Chevrolet Blazer. This happened in the summer, so I didn’t really need it unless I was taking it through the woods, which happened once. I still freaked out because that’s just ANOTHER part I have to buy for that thing. But if you think about it, it’s kind of a small problem. I don’t always need it, and this winter, I’ve never needed it. Trust me, I got stuck plenty of times but I was able to get out without the need of four wheel drive.
On many occasions, especially with the Blazer, I’ve blown things out of proportion. But who wouldn’t? Very few people. It’s a first vehicle, so for the most part it’s pretty special to you. If someone else drives your vehicle and breaks something on it, you’re obviously going to be pretty upset. But there are two totally different situations that could happen. They could go out and break something and not tell you, which would be the worse of the two, or they could come back and tell you exactly what happened and things would turn out a little bit better. The best thing to do is tell that person what you did. Hiding it from them is going to make the whole situation really bad.
There have been multiple times where my dad has driven my Blazer without me knowing and then I come home to find something broke on it. 9/10 times it’s been something totally minor and I just blew it out of proportion just because it’s my vehicle and it’s my first one. That being said, he never said anything, and that goes back to my last paragraph. Just telling the truth and telling that person what happened will help the situation out a lot better. Every time I always found something else that was broken, I always acted like it was the end of the world and acted like the thing shouldn’t be on the road anymore.
I found out I lost the four wheel drive by trying to get out of the snow after a Nor’ Easter. We got over a foot of snow and I don’t have snow tires so I was just going to kick in the four wheel drive and get it out so I could shovel the driveway. I put it in neutral and click the “4×4 High” button. All I heard was a bang but nothing engaged. It was at that point, where I had a feeling something was up. I’m hoping it’s just something minor. There could be three different things that could be the issue. One, it could be my vacuum lines. Two, it could be the actuator that is powered by the vacuum lines and it engages the four wheel drive. Last but not least, it could be an electrical issue, which I really don’t want to mess with. I’m not good at any electrical stuff and I don’t want to make anything else worse. I’m pretty sure it’s just a simple fix though.
Looking back, I think it’s pretty funny because it’s just a simple fix. All I need to do is find the vacuum line leak. I totally blew it out of proportion at that time. It’s funny, because it shows how people can be so bothered by things that are just little problems. We react and think they’re huge and important, but they really aren’t. After I took a deep breath and thought about things, I was alright and knew I was over reacting, and thought the way I acted was funny.
Sometimes it’s not all that bad to blow things out of proportion. I mean, yeah it’s not really a good trait to have, but sometimes it can be funny to other people, and looking back on it, it can be funny. It just means that you care about that specific thing a lot. We don’t want anything bad to happen to that specific thing. We all know that there are times when we take it too far, but that’s nothing to be ashamed about. Even if it is just something completely minor. Things happen. Mistakes happen. All we can do is look at the positives! At least I have never needed the Four Wheel drive yet!
