Giggles… is they call me, I mean there is worse nicknames out there. I guess I should be proud, I mean my life is filled with so much laughter and joy that someone finds it fitting to call me giggles. Laughter is what gets me to the next day, the next week, month, year. Without it I do not think that I would be able to breathe let alone live. I use it as a defense, as a wall to protect myself from others cruel judgement, I use it as a way to just make me smile when it seems almost impossible. Laughter is the way I heal and move forward from things that hurt.
The idea of allowing myself to be hurt or ridiculed is terrifying to me, my insecurities and problems are so large that i do everything in my power to avoid them and not allow others to see or know about them. Knowledge is power and why would I want to give them that power? Nobody can ever hurt you if they don’t how to. I have only seen a fraction of how much pain the world and the people in this world can inflict upon one another and it is nothing that I ever even want to begin to deal with… So I just try and avoid all of it with humor. You make the jokes before anyone else can. I also use laughter to benefit me when it comes to work because it allows the children to see me as more approachable. It helps me better deal with other people’s problems that they come to me with.
I have this thing that I do where I create a joke about something serious to allow myself to actually talk about without having all the emotions that come with it. It tends to make people highly uncomfortable but it allows me to avoid the emotions while being able to get it off my chest. To relieve the pressure but not fully let someone in. I also tend to look up stupid puns to distract myself and get a good laugh out of them to prove that even when the shittiest things are happening even the simplest things and make you smile. It allows a sense of optimism to remain even though the world is crash down around you.
When it comes to work, it’s the time of the day where I think I laugh the most. It’s amazing, it makes me look more approachable and happy for the kiddos so they feel more comfortable to come up and talk to me about how they are feeling and what is on their minds. It also creates an amazing work environment. I am on good terms with almost all of my coworkers so we just laugh and joke all day long so it makes the time fly by. The saying really is true, time flys when you are having fun.
It helps me with other people and the drama they are enduring because they know who I am and I am able to make light of the situation and make jokes and get the laughing before we truly get into the deep and meaningful and heartfelt stuff that we need to discuss.
I never understood how people could be so unhappy, my father always told me that you choose to be happy. Yes, I am blind or naive, not everyone can be happy all the time but I do believe that we influence our mood to a certain extent. There are many thing that we can not control but we can control how we react to them and how we look at the hand that we are dealt. Life is like a game of Cribbage, it is a game mostly based on luck mixed with a hint of strategy. We spend all of our time focused on what bad luck we have instead of just focusing on the fact that we have the chance to peg and gain more points to advance their future. Many people focus more on the glass is half empty type of lifestyle instead of focusing on the glass is half full kind of style. We waste our time focusing on what we lack in our hand, and how we don’t have the perfect scoring twenty-nine point hand with the right jack and three fives’ and also cutting another five. Instead of focusing on the wonderful hand we have sitting in front of us.
