Resilience

While among the debris Mr. Lou Zampereni decided that he had to go for the raft before he helped the guy bleeding out to save himself and everyone else in the long run. After rowing to the suvivors Mac, phil and pulling Fill out of the water onto the raft Mister Zamperini was lucid enough to check for a pulse before trying to stop the bleeding. Mister Zamperini contributed his knowledge from a CPR course he took while a kid in Boy Scouts. One of Kendra Cherry’s traits that she found resiliant people to have was strong problem solving skills and she said ” When a crisis emerges, resilient people are able to spot the solution that will lead to a safe outcome. In dangerous situations, non-resilient people sometimes develop tunnel vision. They fail to note important details or take advantages of opportunities. Resilient individuals, on the other hand, are able to calmly and rationally look at the problem and envision a successful solution. ” ( Kendra Cherry). This showed and helped determine that Mr. Zamperini was a resiliant person do to the fact of his strong problem solving skills. Even though the pilot Phil was technically in command he was concussed and physically injured he was lucid enough to see Mister Zamperini was in the best position to make their decisions and have control. This just shows that the pilot Phil is also resiliant because of his awarness just like Kendra Lust said that ” Resilient people are aware of the situation, their own emotional reactions and the behavior of those around them. In order to manage feelings, it is essential to understand what is causing them and why. By remaining aware, resilient people can maintain their control of the situation and think of new ways to tackle problems. ” ( Kendra Lust). After suffering severe Sunburn and dehydration from the equatorial sun and the burning of the salt water, oil and fuel mixture in their fissures and open wounds while they meandered about in the open sea. It started to rain fresh clean, cool, cleansing water from the sky. Most people would have just worried about hydrating eye cleansing themselves but Mr Zamperini was lucid enough to know that the small openings from the water tins wouldn’t allow them to gather much water. He then ripped open the canvas from the air pump to collect water. Happily he watched the canvas gather freshwater only to have a saltwater wave crash over the raft and spoil the clean drinking water. He then came up with a different technique of harvest in the Water by collecting smaller amounts, sucking in the water then spitting it into the water Tins. After getting their future Supply he then worried about hydrating the other men and himself at that moment. Once the rain stopped we discovered that the canvas makes a great hat for them to obstruct the sun. After the cash nine to ten days past and then Mr. Zamperini felt a bird land on his head. A lot of people would have panicked and shoot the bird away. Where as with Mr. Zampereni’s awareness he slowely reached up and quickly grabbing the birds legs and breaking the birds neck. Showed that he is reiliant from Kendra lusts sixth topic about Indentifying as a survivior as she says ” When dealing with any potential crisis, it is essential to view yourself as a survivor. Avoid thinking like a victim of circumstance and instead look for ways to resolve the problem. ” (Kendra Lust). Mr. Zamperini tore open the bird hand in pieces of meat to Matt, Phil and I’m so but the feeded odor from the bird’s body obstructed the ravenous men from being able to eat it. Mr. Zamperini instead use the meat from the bird to try and catch a fish after losing a few hooks to the sharks they caught a pilot fish. It was the first source of food since they began their Odyssey. The fresh food gave a boost of energy to Phil and mr. Zamperini but Mac stayed unchanged. Mr. Zamperini believes that feels fate was what helped to make it through their Odyssey. Mr. Zamperini believe that his mutinous youth helped and be able to think of his way around any boundary which in turn help him through the greatest struggles in his life. After roughly two weeks at Sea mr. Zamperini unlike Phil not a religious man began to pray out loud. This showed that Mr. Zamperini was also resilience person for Kendra lust seventh topic being able to ask for help when she says ” While being resourceful is an important part of resilience, it is also essential to know when to ask for help. ” (Kendra Lust). After they ran out of small Hooks and bait to catch the pilot fish Mr. Zamperini then attach the bigger hugs to his fingers to snag the pilot fish off the backs of the Sharks as they circled the raft. After a month I seem Mac perished and on day 47 r. Zamperini and Phil were picked up by the Japanese two thousand miles away from where their Odyssey began. Mr. Zamperini’s resilience then help him survived two years in a Japanese prison camp. Mr. Zamperini then became a inspirational speaker and wrote two memoirs.
