Oh You’ve Got a Friend in Me

Have you ever been in a position where you’ve been stuck between a rock in a hard place and needed a way out? Well, I can tell you about a time when my friend Andrew has helped me out of plenty of those moments and how I eventually returned the favor.

To start off I should probably tell you who Andrew is. Andrew has been my friend since middle school, and we weren’t really close until our Sophomore year. Since then, Andrew and I have hung out more times than I can count. Andrew is quite a friend indeed. These events will tell you just how close of a friendship we have.

First off, Andrew has helped me numerous amounts of times from waking up at 1 AM to finish our semester’s work, to giving me rides when my truck was out of commission. Up until recently, his actions went unanswered. But, this summer his truck needed a lot of work needed to get an inspection sticker. Well, luckily, I would call myself mechanically inclined. Not only did I help him replace parts, fix rust, and actually rebuild his rear differential, I saved him money from having a shop do all this work, and taught him how to replace these parts.

Andrew and I had quite some events leading up to this which only had strengthened our friendship. For example, he and his then-girlfriend went through quite a messy breakup. At that most of his “friends” disappeared with the girl and I was the only one left to talk to him and keep him from getting into a really bad situation.

Enough about how I’ve helped Andrew because he’s clearly helped me out more. From the beginning of our Junior year, I had a truck which was a constant headache with mechanical problems. Andrew not only offered his help in trying to fix the darn thing, he offered to give me rides to work or school when the truck was down. Now, this wasn’t his only event and certainly not his greatest, but I will say, it meant a lot to me that he would bring me to where I needed to be without any resistance.

The most memorable event that he has helped with is actually happening currently as I am typing this blog post. He saw that I was most likely not going to pass English because of how far behind I was. Well, he was a little behind too, so, he said, “We’re going to go to bed at 9 PM, wake up at 1 AM, and we’re going to get this stuff done”. That to me is the most help anyone could have done for me. He’s not only helping himself, he motivated me to actually get my stuff done. Even though I may not pass, I will certainly be in a better position to make up the credit. That my friends is why a friend in need, is a friend indeed.
