A Quick Fall

The middle school years are supposed to be the easy years building up to high school with nothing to worry about except for some simple homework. But what I was not expecting was to get pushed down a set of stairs and slide on my ankle all the way down. It was just like any other day, having our everyday classes, hanging out with friends at recess, and getting ready to leave for the day, just to start the cycle all over again. Except this time, there was going to be a change in the cycle. When the announcement came over the intercom that we were dismissed to go to the buses, everyone rushed out of their classrooms and headed towards the stairs. Just as I had reached the stairs and proceeded to head down, I felt someone’s hand put there hand on my back and push on me. I was not expecting to be pushed and was about to step down when it  had happened, causing me to lose my balance. As my foot hit the step, it gave out and got twisted behind me, causing me to slide down the stairs on my entire right leg. After I reached the bottom of that flight of stairs, I tried to get up but had a hard time. On the way down, my ankle hit every step, causing it to swell about three times the original size and turn red. I did not know that at this time, I was too embarrassed to check and picked myself up as quickly as I could. When I reached the bottom, the person who had pushed me who was a friend at the time, apologized and explained how they did not intend on pushing me down the stairs, but only giving me a nudge. Now, not only did I have a giant ankle that brought agonizing pain to touch and walk on, but I had to make it down a second flight of stairs, make it to the bus, get on and then off of the bus, and finally walk down my road to get to my house. This may not sound like a lot of hard work, but at the time when I was barely able to walk, it sounded like the longest journey I would ever go on. After finally making it down the second set of steps, I continued down the hall, out the doors, and onto the bus. At this point, it felt like it would be less painful to just cut it off entirely. After I sat down on the bus, I thought about the long walk that I would be having to take when we arrived at my stop. Every bump that we had encountered on the bus had brought me more pain until we finally had reached the point where I was supposed to get off of the bus. Going down the steps was just as bad as going up them originally. I knew that this was going to be the worst part of the entire trek starting at the stairs to ending up here. It felt like I had been walking forever, even though I could still see the beginning of the road where I had started if I turned around. The same person who had pushed me, also happens to live down my road and takes the same bus as me and walks the same route, so they slowly walked with me the entire time. Thankfully, it was a nice day and a good one for being outside. The walk to my house took so much longer than it usually did on a regular day when I did not need to limp every step of the way. By the time I got home, I remembered that I would have to go up another set of stairs just to get into my house, which would be just as hard and painful to do as the other stairs that I had previously gone through. At this point, there was not much I could do except wait for my mom to come back home from work an hour later. When she finally did, I told her about what had happened and showed my ankle. After she had seen it, she told me that we were going to go to the hospital and get it checked out. When we arrived and were seen, I was given a pair of crutches and told to stay off of my ankle for a while until it gets better. After a while on crutches, the person who pushed me continued to apologize and explain that they feel so bad. I always told them that it was alright, and I was never mad about the situation, even on the day it happened. I figured that they never actually meant to  push me, and I am happy that we were able to laugh off the situation and continue to be friends for a little while. Even though we are not as close any more and rarely talk, I am still not upset about anything that had happened.

Ouch, that must have been a very painful situation. I can see how it was embarrassing for you and it must have been weird walking down the the road with the same person that pushed you down the stairs. I my self have been in a situation similar to that and it was not fun.
