Worst Injury of My Life

On February 21st 2016 I had the worst injury of my life. It all started on a Sunday, I used to do something called Sunday soccer. Our old soccer coach used to rent and hour on the turf field, which we used to have a pick up game. 45 Minutes have gone by and there was 15 mins left the teams were tied. I received the ball from another player, and I was bringing down the field and that out of nowhere a player on the other side came up behind be and attempted to slide tackle the ball. He completely missed the ball and got my ankle instead. I went down, and as I fell down there was a loud cracking noise that came from my lower leg. I didn’t know what happened at the time so I tried to get up but I could not. Two of my friends Cameron and Collin helped me hop of the field and I sat on the bench for about 5 min. I was able to move my toes and I could feel my foot. It didn’t hurt for abut 3 min because of the shock I was in. After 5 mins I started to feel the pain it hurt so much we decided to go to St. Mary’s urgent care, where I got x-rays. On our way to the urgent care my foot was in so much pain, that it was the most painful feeling of my life. When we got to the urgent care I was given pain medicine to help the pain, I do not think it worked. The nurses needed to take x-rays so I got up on the table, it took a little bit to take them because it was hard to keep my foot still because it hurt so much. The nurses were looking over the x-rays and found out that I broke my ankle in two places and one place in my foot. I was then transported to St. Mary’s hospital where I was then told, I needed to have surgery. Two days later I had surgery. It was rough the first couple days after the surgery. I was in a lot of pain. I could not sleep well at night either. For a week I was home with my mom just watching t.v. One of my friends came over to my house and we played x-box and to hang out. I was very bored, all I wanted to do was go to school and see my friends and show them my cast and tell them what happened. A week had passed and I went to school for the first time since the injury. I was a little nervous at first because I needed to use a wheelchair because I didn’t know if I was going to be made fun of. It was the complete opposite people were very nice to me. People and friends wanted to sign my cast which made me very happy. I had some struggles with the wheelchair. I had a hard time going up the main ramp in the school. I one of my friends saw me struggling up the ramp they would go right up behind me and push me up the ramp. A lot of the time if I was going to the same class as someone they would just push me to the room. I had a hard time rolling over to a desk because I was not able to fit in a row so they moved desks to me so I could use a desk. Something that was very difficult to do was getting school lunch. It was hard for me to get it because the wheelchair was too big to get in line so one of my friends went in line for me and grabbed me some lunch. I am very thankful for my friends, teachers, and other people that helped me during a rough time. It would have been very difficult if I didn’t have friends that didn’t help me, I probably wouldn’t have done good in school.

It was a couple days before Christmas during the evening, when I was working a four-hour shift at Hannaford. It was a busy evening because everyone was rushing to get their last minute food items before Christmas. I had about one hour left of my shift and I was bagging on register seven when someone suddenly tapped my shoulder and said “Lost theft prevention, follow me” I did not know what was going on. He started running to the door so I followed him. We got outside the entrance and there was this old man pushing a small cart of groceries. we were going after him repeatedly say “Sir Sir Stop” he kept on walking then the Lost theft prevention person got in front of him and said “We need to go inside and talk, you are steeling groceries. The guy kept on denying it. We eventually got him to go inside. We got him into the security office and sat him down. We asked him for his ID and he did not want to give it to us but he eventually gave it to us. We then asked him some other questions such as have you stolen from here before, and why did you steal. We got his age and other info, we found out he was 73 years old. The lost theft prevention person called cooperate because we have a police that if they are over 70 years old we will not press charges. We called the police and a police officer came and wrote him a trespass warning so he can not come back and he can not go to other one of our locations. After the police talked to the man we had him leave the store. I had to write a report after the incident because I was an eyewitness. The good thing is that I did not have to write a report on the indecent.
