Latin Class

It all started when I was making my schedule for freshman year of high school. I was going to pick a language class and there it was Latin. I remember my sister talking about and how she was learning about mythology in the class. She learn about the Olympus gods and goddess. How people believed that each of them stood for something. For example Zeus was the is the god of sky and lighting, and Artemis was the goddess of hunting, wilderness, and wild animals. There also stories about them and how they helped the people. So that is when I knew I want to take the class. I put it on list and at the beginning of freshman year I started the Latin class.

Learning Latin was difficult. There was so many things I had to remember and I always felt that I was falling behind. The worst part that were was not going to start learning about mythology until next semester. I struggled to remember all the terms and what the meant. The biggest problem was translating English into Latin. It was it until I realized something. A lot of medical words come from Latin. For example arthr- in Latin means a joint and an medical with the root is arthritis. I that is was amazing. Then the fire lit like rocket taking off into outer space. I could use medical terms to help me with remembering the Latin words. It helped me remember a lot of Latin words and it also helped me in the future.

Junior year finally was rounding around and I was taking an LRTC class called Medical Science. At the beginning of the year the teacher gave us a packet full of Medical abbreviations, roots, prefixes, suffixes. Throughout the year we would be taking test over all of it. When it came to the learning the medical roots it was easy because most of them came from Latin. I remember them and it helped me on a lot the test to. I still study for the test but I tried to find an Latin word that would help me remember them.

Taking Latin class was the best choice I made. Learning about Latin helped me remember stuff for Medical Science and Anatomy & Physiology. It will also help me when I go to college to become a nurse. That first year of Latin lit a fire inside of me. It helped me realize what I want to when I leave high school. I did get to learn about mythology that year but I also learn how to remember Latin words and Medical terms.

I feel you, I was disappointed when we didn’t learn the myths the first semester. I’m glad I latin too it helps us understand english and it helps with membean to. Like mal means bad so when I see words with mal- in it I know it has to do with something terrible or evil.

I can understand that, I mean, it’s the same with french and french and dance. Some dance words come from french, so during freshman year when I started taking french, it was a little easier to understand the words, both in class and in dance.

I did Latin for two years and I absolutely loved the class and Mrs. Moran. I wish I could have done it for longer but my schedule wouldn’t allow it. I will always remember how happy I was just to be in those classes other than the days I had to do test. It was always a good day when it was a Latin day.

I like how you were able to tie in two classes together to help you succeed in both of them. It’s a great moment when you realize that you already learned information in another class and can apply that knowledge to a whole different class! I like how you at first wanted to take Latin because you wanted to learn about mythology, but then realized the language will help you out later in life in your other classes and career. I also like how you were able to persevere through the difficult part of Latin and continue to try your best rather than drop the class, it shows how much of a hard worker you are!

I felt the same, I had learned all the myths so I thought Latin would be a breeze. I was so wrong about that. I persevered just as you did through Latin though and It has helped me too. While I’m not going in the medical field, I found Latin words helping me in membean, English’s very own torture. The words that I had learned in Latin were suddenly part of the words I had, and it especially helped with the roots of words as the English language is a thief.
