A dream of mine is to travel to London. I want to travel alone, although I am not opposed to someone alongside with me. I have wanted to visit London for a couple of years now, but I know I am serious about travelling there now. Of course it will not be in the next year, but I am hoping sometime in my 20’s I am able to go.
I realized, however, that there is a lot to learn about London. It’s in a completely different country! The thought of travelling to London and experiencing it on my own excites me. I decided I wanted to do some research to learn about what I will need to know and get in order to travel to London. This is where I felt the fire that W.B. Yeats speaks of: “Education is not the filling of a pail, but rather the lighting of a fire”. I had an ambition to learn, I had excitement to learn, so I decided to do some research.
I started with a post of “20 things to know before you travel to London”. The second thing listed was about getting an Oystercard.
“What?” I ask myself. I realized there will be more to this research than I thought, but it’s fine because I want to go to London and it’s interesting to learn about.
So I looked up an Oystercard. And then a Travelcard. And then a contactless card. Believe it or not, these cards are just for London travel.
“Why do they have so many cards just for travel?” I ask, still excited to learn more about these cards, though.
This is where I started fully understanding everything in which I realized, depending on how long my stay will be, I would be best off getting either a standard Oystercard with a Travelcard, or a Visitor Oystercard.
I also learned about the London Pass, which will save me time and money when I end up visiting London. I hopped on the London Pass website and found that buying this pass will give me access to a lot of London’s attractions as well as allowing me to skip the lines at a lot of the attractions. I was excited to also learn I could get an Oystercard alongside the London Pass, making it simpler and cheaper to purchase all in one.
After about an hour of research on London’s travel options, I felt relieved and I knew that this would help me for my future trip to London. Now when I plan my trip in some years time, I know all about the travel options.
I still have that fire in me to learn much more about life in London for future use. I know that I’m not just “filling a pail” with useless information, I am lighting the fire that sparks inside me for wanting to learn more about my future trip.
W.B. Yeats’s quote reminds me of learning about London and how excited I was to start my research. I hope to soon learn about all of the attractions, hotels, and about travelling internationally. I will remember this quote when I am actually in London, experiencing it in person.

H, great piece. I loved how even after all the crazy stuff you had to research and go through that fire and love for travel and wanting to go to London still blazed inside of your stomach. Believe it or not, I LOVE to travel. I have been to 5 different countries and 25 states. Your enthusiasm for travel shows in your writing and I say keep it going! I enjoyed reading this.
I can really relate to wanting to go to another country. I want to go to France so bad and see everything there that they have to offer. I can see how it can be very stressful researching about a different country because it is completely different than our country. I can see your passion in this writing which shows how interested you were in learning about this. I hope your dream comes true one day!
This was very interesting to read about. I have known that you had wanted to travel there but did not realize the amount of research and effort you put into it. Reading this shows how passionate you are for this place and how much you are wiling to do.
I’m glad you found something that interest you enough to do research on it. I hope that you really do get to visit London and you get to see everything you want to and explode it all to the fullest. Bring a friend with you, the memories of going alone and going with a friend are completely different and probably way different.
I am glad that you found a place you really want to travel to. It is good that you put in the time and effort before deciding to go to a different country, because you wouldn’t want to go some where and be lost and not know what to do. With the dedication and your time it really shows that you want to go.
