My family is originally from Canada(my dads side). My dads parents both moved to Lewiston when they were kids. They moved here for in search of work. This is the time period when the mills in Lewiston were producing world class shoes. My Memere worked in the Bates mill making shoes and so did my Pepere. Working in these mills was not easy for them. They worked long rigorous hours just to get by. Eventually they worked so much and saved there money where they became well off. During this time my grandparents had to make sacrifices to have a better standard of live for their kids and themselves. My Pepere was one to always save his money and understood how valuable money was since he worked so hard for it.
I believe how my family gets the will to work hard is from Pepere because without him father would not be the way he is today. My father seen his father work hard for his money. My pepere had to sacrifice for his family to survive, to get food on the table for his family. As my dad was seeing his father work, he went to work himself as paper boy try to make a little money for my himself. I learned how to work hard from my father when I did yard with him. My dad is the type of person where everything needs to be perfect. If it is not perfect then the job is not done. That is just how my dad grew up, and that is what I grew up with my whole life. I help my dad as much as I can to help him with whatever he needs. My pepere always kept good car or his lawn, car and house and worked to support his family in all the ways possible.
My dad is the spitting image of my Pepere. He worked at BIW for basically his entire life. My dad works very hard for his money. He does hard work that is physically demanding. I respect my dad alot cause he was the one that has worked so much over the use just so our family could get buy. When I was little I always remembered my dad having to work overtimes and had to miss my hockey games. I new how much my dad enjoyed watching me play hockey it really stunk for my dad cause he was the one always grinding for our family just so we don’t have to worry as much about money.
When my dad was growing up his family did not have a lot of money and there for my dad could not play sports and do extra curricular activities. When I was growing up my parents made it a priority that I played. They would always ask what sports I wanted to play and they would sign me up. When my dad was a child that was not the case. They did not have a lot off money when my dad was a kid. My dads parents had four kids in the household they could not just let one kid play sports because that would be unfair to the others. His parents could not afford to pay for all four kids sports.
My dad played pond hockey when he was growing up. His older brother bought him a pair of skates. He was telling me how he loved the game and the things he would done to play hockey at the competitive level. Ever since I was little my dad introduced me to skating on the pond. The first time I stepped on the ice it was like I was a natural. I was gliding across that ice like it was nothing. My dad always wanted a hockey player since I was the baby in the family I was his last chance for to have a hockey player. My dad wanted to give me the chance that he didn’t have growing up. My dad worked hard so I could play hockey. Hockey is not a cheap sport and my parents both made sacrifices for me too play hockey. My parents work very hard for there money and that means alot to me. My dad gave me a very good opportunity that most kids do not get.
My whole family’s history is based on hard work. Without working hard for there money my family would not have gone anywhere in life. I believe that my Pepere was the one that inspired my dad to work hard and my dad past that down to us.

Jayson, I really enjoyed the little history lesson behind your writing. I feel that you showed strong evidence that matched well with the topic of choice. I liked how you gave us background information about your family history and how it bounced off them and went to you. You show a strong work ethic and you are a great kid. Your writing has proved to me that you have a good understanding of working hard and making money. Great work.
I completely understand all of this I have been since I could just barely walk working in my grandfathers business and the same way for my grandfather and dad. we don’t know any different.
By seeing how your own father is really does make you want to be like them. They try to make you a better person and raise you right. You really showed that you are thankful for him and your grandfather in your writing. You did a good job with this and you were sincere.
