Wow, here’s the time that we never thought would actually come. The class of 2019 is finally graduating and moving onto bigger and better things, and this summer is going to be one for the books because we don’t have to worry about going back to Oak Hill, instead we get to start being freshmen again but this time in college. Now, that I got the obvious stuff out of the way, let’s look back on the past four years of our time here at Oak Hill.
The first year here was the year when the rumor that we had a pool down in the weight room, finally got debunked when we had freshman day and went down into the weight room, but that was only the first day. The second day of high school was when we got pressured to do great, and got told the famous line from every single teacher we had “ Do not procrastinate”. This was also the day we finally got to meet all the upperclassmen, especially the senior class. This was also the year that I started a friendship that would last forever.
Sophomore year, was the year that as freshmen we dreaded because none of us wanted to do the sophomore speech because if we failed that, it meant we wouldn’t pass which also meant we’d have to go to summer school, and a majority of people chose to do abortion. What else happened sophomore year? Sophomore year was a good one, I mean I had a great friend circle until I started to date one of the senior stars of the boys soccer team, and wanted to spend the free time in the mornings with him and his friends instead of my own. We eventually ended at the end of sophomore year and when it finally ended for good, I found my truest friends because they were still there when I went back to them, and even until this day I’m super grateful for. Also this was the year that I decided to turn my life around by joining the Sabattus Fire Department, and to this day I’m glad I made this choice because I believe that if I hadn’t I probably wouldn’t be in the mental health state I’m in now.
Year 3, the year that the water at our school made it so we had half-days for almost a whole week, and also closed down some of the bathrooms so we had to walk to the other end of the school just to go to the bathroom. This was also the year, that a lot of people found out who their true friends were, because it left us with a year left of school and the friend groups were shrinking because people have finally started to think about what they wanted to do with their lives.
And now, the final year and the year that about 80% of seniors were rushing around to finish capstone, and the other 20% of us had done our job shadows over the summer and the school year only meant to do the portfolio and then we were done, but then we had to present them to our panels and let’s just a minute to admit that presenting it was a lot worse then doing our sophomore speeches. When it came down to what I was going to do, I chose to do criminal justice and according to Mr. Young I did good. Senior year was the final time to decide what we wanted to do with our lives after school, and about 90% of us are going to community college to save money and because you can get your degree there and be all set.
So the class of 2019, as I stand here and read this speech my heart is breaking because we’re now going our separate ways, and this year I made some friendships I don’t want to lose but I know that it may happen but that’s okay because college starts in the fall and we’ll all make new friends. The last thing I’m going to say as we get ready to walk the stage and get our diplomas is that I hope all of us do well in the next chapters in our lives, and don’t do anything stupid. Be smart and be careful with your life decisions.

Walking into freshmen year you think this is never going to end, but it came sooner than anyone thought it was going too. Getting through it and doing what you want after is the best feeling in the world. Never give up on what you want and push through this time of your life, four years of your life you either love or hate. The end of the new beginning. You got this!
I like how you reflected on the past four years of school! As I was reading each year, it brought back memories of my own experiences as well. It’s amazing how much has changed from Freshman year to Senior year, and all the friendships made and lost along the way. I agree that presenting Capstone was a lot worse than Sophomore Speech, but both are done and we no longer have to worry about them, which is very good news! I also think it is kind of sad that some people we will never see again, but I like how you added we will make more friends in college!
The past four years have been emotional and hectic and much more. But you did amazing we have not been close friends but you have always been here for me and go out of your way for many people. You are always so busy with being on the fire dept. and school and who knows what else. But great Job you did it!!
I relate to this story, high school has been a crazy ride. Procrastinating definitely affected all of us. I’m glad we got kind of close throughout the years, I can say you are one of my truest friends even if we aren’t super close. I’m gonna miss you girl!
