Have you ever been able to use your parent’s brand new vehicle? The feeling of tingly warmth that flows up through your body as you get in the driver’s seat. It is a feeling of great responsibility to be given a privilege, so the best thing to do is try and take it nice and slow. Just look at all your buttons and make sure you know where your highbeams are, find the emergency lights just in case. Then buckle, then start the car and make sure it is in park, throw it in reverse and go! WHAM! So yeah. . . .This is how I ignored almost every signal that there was a garage door behind me and learned a valuable lesson or two. I was clueless of just what I had done and so begins my night out with the car. Backing into the garage door was just the start of this adventure, when I got home that night I tried to get back in as quietly as possible. Yet, of course, my mom is a natural at this stuff and is standing in the kitchen waiting. The great feeling of an anvil in my stomach kept my poor legs from taking a step, “uhhh heyyyyy ma..” I peeped. Nothing said back other than a stern look and a short retort simultaneously pointing a finger “You know what happened,”. She paused, then turning around she walked away and went to her room after waiting that long I suppose for me to venture back.
I was stuck like stone still for another couple minutes until I went to bed myself. I thought to myself why did I do that, why didn’t I check what was behind me. The absolute guilt trip I put myself through was enough, now knowing my mom would be paying for any damages. I was scared to be honest, and as the sun was just starting to bring light to the horizon I slipped asleep. The next day I woke and I rush downstairs to check the damages to the car. There was none and I felt a massive wave of relief until I looked at the garage door and saw the big dent that I had left. It is still there to this day and is a big reminder to me to stay vigilant and aware of whats goings on around me. There are several lessons to be learned here from this mistake, the first is before I actually start moving, to make sure to buckle, check my surroundings while also doing the same for the mirrors.Everything I do before I go is important for when I start moving. The second is to make sure you are awake enough when leaving to check everything, do not try waking up at 3 am and wanting food and leaving immediately. The last and biggest lesson is never break someone’s trust, especially a close family member like I did with my mom for awhile. If given a privilege it can be taken away and that was something I learned from the entire experience. I thought she was going to grab a hatchet and take my head clean off.

I loved this story. It was very pleasant to read and always stayed on topic. You’re really lucky that the car didn’t take any damage. While the situation could have ended badly I’m glad that you learned such an important lesson about driving.
