Our coach was telling us the day before the game that he was going to change things up because we already knew we were going to win the game. So my friend Max and I were trying to convince our coach to let both of us push up and play offense instead of our usual position which was defense. We had been trying to convince our coach throughout the whole season to let us play offense for a game and he finally agreed letting us play offense in the next game. The only reason he let us is because he knew we were going to win that game anyways so he did not really care. Our coach said the only way we will get to play offense is if our offense gets us up by at least 4 goals. So we had to wait for that to happen, so we knew we had a solid lead, so that we can switch things up and have fun.
Finally, it was game day and my friend Max and I could not wait to be able to play offense and try and score for the first time this season. We knew that we had to get a lead first while we played our regular position. The Referee blew his whistle and initiated the start of the game and that is when we started hard and wanted to get goals early and be up so we can have some fun. Very early on our team scored a goal, and then again right after that goal. After this, we started to slow it down, but still knew we needed to score more. So about half way through the first half we scored again, then a fourth time at the end of the half so we could finally switch it up and have fun. Once halftime hit, our coach was satisfied enough by the lead we had with goals so he said we could start the second half of the game with Max and I up on offense and put two other people back on defense to cover our spot. We all knew that doing this will leave our defense weak and that gives the other team, a whole lot better of a chance of scoring on us. We were not very afraid because if we really had to we could just put our real offense back in and get a goal back to secure the lead and the game. This is where it got interesting with Max and I playing offense because you could easily tell we are not the regular crew out there on attack. But the ball was kicked by one of our mid-fielders to the top left corner of the other team’s side and that happened to be my side because I was playing left striker at the time. So I sprinted down to where the ball was kicked to try and be the first one there and I was but the goalie also was headed to the same area which meant the goal was open. By the time I got to the ball I was basically on the end line of that side of the field so that is why the goalie was coming out to pressure me. The only way I was getting the ball into the net was challenging him to a 1v1 or kicking the ball around him. I really only had one choice because if I were to get by him in a 1v1 the other team’s defense would be back anyways. So I had to try and curve it around him so I took my shot and the ball went around the goalie and hit one of the defenders that was running back to help and the ball hit off of him and went into the net. That was the second time I scored this season.
This time I was very surprised because I had a really good feeling that I was not going to make it in. When I took the shot and saw it headed in the right direction, then the help of the other team accidentally hitting it in, I knew that I scored again. I was very excited and surprised that I scored that because it was very lucky because probably any other team would have saved that. This reminded me of the show “21 Thunder ” which is a soccer show and the reason it reminds me of that is because I really wanted to achieve a goal which was scoring when I play defense 99% of the times. This is similar to 21 Thunder because they had dreams they were chasing which was achieving stardom in the sport. Both the movie and I were trying to achieve a goal during the same thing which was soccer.

A really great story! Very entertaining just by the fact it’s a story about soccer, and chasing after your dreams, and that sometimes things surprise you. When something has a different outcome than you expected it’s great when it’s something positive that occurs. Regardless it’s also, something dangerous to think you’re going to win regardless, anything can happen that can change the pace of the game or whether it’s a win or a loss, can’t ever get too ahead of yourselves. It’s great though that you achieved your goal and that you got to play on offense!
While I am not familiar with 21 Thunder I like how you explained further how it relates to 21 Thunder. This story is interesting because I was on the field at the time and so I know what happened from my own perspective, however it is interesting to see what the moment was like from your perspective. I don’t think Coach Bob “knew” we were going to win, but he was confidant that we would put in the effort and do what was necessary. Nevertheless, that game was a lot of fun and I am glad you decided to post about it and give me the opportunity to look back on it.
Great job scoring, I like how you gave us information from before the game to give us background on what transpired before and then the play from the beginning whistle was cool to hear. What was the main thought that sparked you and your friend to want to play offense and score?
This is such an awesome story but this was such an awesome game. You and I really did a great job locking down on defense and when we finally got our chance to prove ourselves on the other end we did a pretty good job at that. All these years of soccer are really going to stick with me and I am glad that I got to spend them with you all these years. Moby for life <3 Great job 🙂
I like this blog post a lot because it shows that no matter the position you are in during sports you can still be the one to score. I can relate to this post because I was there when this happened and I was one of the people that suggested you push up and you ended up scoring. I like how this post was easy to relate to me and it was easy to understand and feel like you were there. It was smooth and easy to read and understand and relate to even if I actually wasn’t there.
Why did you want to score so bad? Was it just something that you wanted to achieve because you rarely get to play offence?
