Every day you go online you’ll see ads pop up on your screen. Sometimes these ads are based on stuff you may have recently looked at. Most people instantly get freaked out. Just remember, social media may know us to an extent but they will never know us one hundred percent. But the real thing to think about is how much does social media know about our “advertising identity” (revision assistance) vs our “real identity” (revision assistance). Many wonder how much social media really knows about themselves as a human being.
On a personal note, I think social media pretty much knows personality to the dot by knowing everything I like and searching on social media. By stalking Nicki Minaj, they know I love her and know my addiction to fashion based on always following name brand accounts seeing what’s new. They take advantage of that by making the ads mostly seem more fashion-based. They also know I like Nicki Minaj and will display news about her as well. The one thing they try to advertise is comedy tv shows or movies. I’m not a huge fan of them but I do love romance movies and tv shows. They don’t ever advertise this because I watch them on my computer or tv. I never watch tv on my phone.
Social media will always track our interests to know what kind of advertisements they need to show to lure people into making a quick sale. Some think after a while of tracking you, they will know you better than your best friend… yikes. Please always note the government will never actually stalk you since you are one in three hundred million. No one has time to stalk your interests.
