This story is about laughter, but in order for you to understand how important laughter is at all times you need to listen to my story. As a young freshman, my first experience of high school was football. We started out with our summer practice’s and this is where I met coach Doucette and became very close with him. Many of you know who coach Doucette is but let me explain him quickly. Doucette was a loving father to his family, to the game of football and also he loved every player and wanted the best for each kid. Most importantly he was one of the reasons I love football, he always brought laughter to our games and practices, this made each day fun and one to remember.
Coach Doucette was a great coach who knew how to get to know each one of his players on a personal level. He acted not only as a father figure but as a friend he was always bringing laughs to our practices during the summer. He knew how hard work was so when we had good weeks of practices in the summer he would put together events and challenges for our team and other fall sports teams with the raider Olympics. He loved the idea of getting everyone together to play fun games and have water balloon fights and to bring everyone happiness. He knew how important it as to have kids laugh and enjoy what they were doing he focused on every player and to make sure he knew how to make them laugh and give them joy because he knew the game was so much more than just a game.
Coach not only put things together for us during the summer but I remember every year when we went to playoffs, he dresses up every day of the week during practices in funky outfits. This always brought laughter to the team. My favorite was when he dressed up as Jack Sparrow, he had his own pirate hat and a long-haired wig and he always made me laugh when he was saying pirate noises or trying to act like Sparrow during the practice. This made me love football even more because not only did I love the game but Coach made me love practice he made everything fun at practice; He made laughing important he knew if he kept us laughing that we would be happy and respect him even more and he taught me no matter what situation you are in that if you find a way to escape the pressure and think of some memory that makes you laugh and happy that every situation will get better.
Coach Doucette Passed on December 9, 2019, This is on my birthday. Not only was my birthday supposed to be one of the happiest days of my the year, it took a dark turn and became one of the worst days of my life. Coach was more than just a coach to me he was another father figure. On my birthday when he passed we all gathered at the high school to celebrate his life. When I was at the high school many people were there gathering, but we were all their for each other, we created poster of pictures with him on them, we all talked about the memories and laughs coach gave us all and i knew he would be happy to see us all gathering and having laughs in such a dark time. This is where I understood how much laughter can do for you. All of my friends knew I took his death very hard and they were all there for me and talking about the memories and giving me things to laugh about.
For these reasons I believe laughing is a huge component on happiness and having joy in your life. No matter what happens how bad you are hurting that having friends and family to make you laugh will always cheer you up and that you always have memories to bring you joy and laughter to make you happy and this is one time where laughter helped me get through one of the toughest days I’ve ever had.
