To me, patience is probably one of the most important things in life Bill Gates once said, “Patience is the key to success”. I agree with him because you can’t rush things in life if you rush something you’re bound to mess up. If you stay patient and keep working at it then you will achieve more. There’s a situation where I needed to be patient, I was looking for a car, and I just felt like I wanted to buy the first car I saw. I was just itching to finally be able to drive where I want and go somewhere when I want.
My grandpa always said that I can’t bite at the first fish that comes because there might be a bigger one right behind it. What he was trying to say was to take a step back and look at all the options I had to choose from and then choose the one that I could afford and the ones that would be best for me. The very first car I looked at looked great to me, it was a car I’ve always wanted and I finally found one that seemed to be suitable. My parents always told me if I ever need advice about buying something have my grandpa help me, so I called up my grandpa and asked if he and I could go look at the car together. We arrived and there it was, a 2012 Dodge Charger and I asked him, “Isn’t this a good car?”. My grandpa said, “Yeah, looks great. Let’s go check out some other cars.” I said, “But this is the car I want”. And he looked at me and said, “Your work is 30 minutes away, your school is 25 minutes away, and your girlfriend is 25 minutes away. When I was your age I did the same exact thing. That car gets 18 Miles per gallon. You’re going to be filling up three times a week.” I admitted that he was right and he said, “Maybe when you have a good career going and you have a little extra cash saved up then you could buy it, but it shouldn’t be your first car.”
That situation there was a place where he taught me that I had to be very patient in making a big purchase like that. I’m now realizing how much gas I actually go through. I’m very grateful that my grandpa didn’t let me buy that car. Because he was right I do drive anywhere and everywhere I think it made the right decision because of the little ford focus, I have now got around 28 Miles per gallon, which is a lot better than 18. I think that if I would’ve bought the Dodge Charger RT that I would’ve ended being broke because not only did this car get better gas mileage, but it was cheaper too so I had extra money saved up just in case something happened to the car that needed to get repaired.
