My Best Friends Avatar Story

Cthompson22 is one of my best friends. We have been super close ever since we met in Kindergarten. We share the same interests, thoughts, and emotions. We even live less than a mile away from each other. We have played all of the same sports every single year since we met and we have kind of been a dynamic duo in each sport. He has been a super positive impact on my life ever since we met. We have made awesome memories with each other that I will never forget. 

C’s avatar are things that were important to his life. His first element was a star. To me, this is the most important symbol because of the things it represents. He has his dad and two of his brothers in Texas that he visits only once a year maybe. With COVID going on he has not seen them in a long time. Another one of the important things to him is his favorite sport, basketball. He used a square on the outside of his avatar to represent the backboard on the basketball hoop. When I asked, “What position do you play in basketball, and how long have you been playing for?” He responded with, “Power forward since about 1st grade.” The next one is the colors black and white. He uses these because he thinks it represents his favorite brand the best, which is Nike. He wears mainly black and white and since Nike is his favorite he decided to use it in his avatar. The last symbol he chose was a 4-leaf clover. He chose this to not only represent the Celtics, which is his favorite NBA team. One of the questions I asked him was, “Does your Celtics logo also represent luck?” “Yes it also represents luck”, was his response. Since 4-leaf clovers are a sign of luck I can’t blame him for wanting to have some more luck in his life. 

When Cthompson22 started explaining his avatar to me one thing caught my attention. When he was talking to me about his family in Texas, I asked him, “When was the last time you have been to Texas?” He responded with, “It has been two years since I have been there and half my family lives there.” It caught my attention because that is something that is meaningful to him and has a special place in his heart. Almost all of the males in his family are halfway across the country, so it is hard for him. When he was creating his avatar he chose things that were special and meaningful to him in his life. That is also why he chose basketball, family in Texas, the Celtics/luck, and Nike. He thought about his life and what affected him or was most involved in his life and that was how he came up with the four elements of his avatar. 

Cthompson22 and I’s processes of choosing our elements are very similar. We both chose things that affected or were most important to our lives. We also both chose elements that have to do with sports. C also went with a little bigger picture elements than I did. With half his family in Texas and basketball as a whole, it represents a much bigger picture than what I chose. I chose things that affect me on an everyday basis. All of my elements are something that happens every day unlike his. Where he has basketball and the Celtics. He doesn’t play basketball every day or watches the Celtics every day so that is how we differ in our processes of choosing our avatars.
