Gabe is my best friend and is very important to me and he is also a very interesting person who is willing to open up and answer questions. I would say he matters a lot in my life because he is one of the people that I can go to for just about anything and the same goes for him with me. The way we met is a little weird because I added him on Snapchat and found out my best friend Chloe went to school with him. So, then I had a conversation with him about if he knew Chloe, and he and I ended up becoming friends and becoming close. We always talk about his dog Humble and he also really loves talking about music, but most of the time it is older music and I don’t always understand what he is talking about since I usually don’t know the song. I have never really thought about asking Gabe questions so I figured why not, since he is an open book for the most part, and it is also a way to get to know him a little better.
I asked him about his hobbies and interests so we talked about sports, what he does in his spare time, music, and career paths. He plays sports, so I was curious as to what his favorite sport was. He wasn’t too sure because, he doesn’t have a favorite sport, in particular, so he said, “When it comes to playing sport it would be basketball, but if I am watching a sport then it would be football.” He seems to have a lot of free time after school and on the weekends so I wondered what he mostly does in his spare time, “I go golfing sometimes but for the most part I stay home or go to my friend’s house.” He didn’t have much to say about it because he doesn’t really do much on the weekends or in his spare time. One of the biggest interests he has is music, he is always talking about it. Every time we FaceTime music is somehow brought up and so it made me curious as to what genre he enjoys listening to the most. “It’s a tie between three genres which are rock and roll, rap, and 50s doo-wop.” He’s very interested in music and is always talking about it and so he even had a hard time narrowing it down to three but the conversation led to us talking about the genres for a little while. I started to think about how he would answer some of the questions while thinking of questions to ask and so I thought about how I watch movies and tv shows in my spare time. So, then it led me to wonder what genre of movies and tv shows does he enjoy watching, “My favorite genre for movies is dramas and my favorite out of those is A Bronx Tale, and for tv shows my favorite is comedy and sitcoms and my favorite out of those is Parks and Recreation.” I didn’t really expect him to say those exact genres but I did figure that he was going to say comedy. He hasn’t really talked about what he would do after high school so I figured I would ask what he was thinking of doing. He wasn’t too sure so he had to think about his answer, “I would maybe like to be a mechanic or something within the trades.” These questions were more on the serious side and he didn’t have to think too hard about them and that’s what I enjoyed a lot about these questions cause some of the things to shape him into being the person he is.
I decided that I would FaceTime Gabe for a little while before I interviewed him because I wanted to see if he would act any differently. I wanted to see if he was going to take it really seriously or decide to answer questions like it was no big deal. So when we facetimed he acted like his usual self and then, I decided to start the interview. He seemed to have a sense of humor throughout the whole thing like when I asked about sports, he had joked around saying table tennis was his favorite sport. He ended up taking it more seriously and actually answered the questions with him joking around every now and then about something. The interview ended up going well and he was mostly his normal self but took some of the things I asked more seriously than others.
I also asked him some questions that he had to think about like, some that maybe made him have to put himself in a situation and make him think about what he would do. The first question that I asked that was like that was if he could get any pet in the world what it be, even if they are not known to be a pet like zoo animals, his response was interesting, “I would get a sloth because they are really chill and calm.” The answer honestly makes sense because he is a very laid-back person and he isn’t very energetic all of the time. I have always wondered if you could only eat one meal for dinner for the rest of your life what would someone choose, like you have the same exact thing each night, Gabe’s answer was pretty though out, “I would have turkey, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, buns, and gravy.” At first, he said a Thanksgiving dinner but I know each family sometimes has different things in their dinners but he mostly had the basic things. I had to really think about how to word this question yet I find this one to be the most interesting question I asked, “If you could plan out your future and it works as you want it to, would you or would you let it play its own course and why?” He was honestly really confused when I asked this because, it did not make total sense to him but once he understood what I was asking he thought pretty hard about it, “I would let it play its own course, cause I feel I wouldn’t want to be restricted and I feel like it would take too much time.” This answer did not surprise me at all because Gabe is someone who likes to go with the flow and he doesn’t really like things to be planned out since he ends up knowing what is happening. I had to ask some practical questions because I thought his answers would be really interesting and what he said was surprising to me, I wanted to know if he could go anywhere in the world where would he go, “I would like to go to Iceland cause it’s a really beautiful place and nice places to go.” I was not expecting him to say Iceland I was thinking that it was going to be somewhere tropical like Hawaii cause he does seem to enjoy beautiful sights. The last thing I asked him was if he could spend a whole day with anyone who would it be, “Mac Miller because I would want to talk to him about his albums and his music career like how he felt when his first song blew up and what it’s like being who he is as a rapper and what it is like being famous and if it’s actually.” This didn’t surprise me because he is really into music so, I figured it would either be a music artist or one of his family members. I am a little surprised that he had a really thought-out reason to spend the day with Mac Miller though. I am glad that I asked these questions since he really did think about what his answer was going to be and seemed excited to talk about some of the subjects.
Overall, I think that the interview went great, some questions did take longer for him to answer but that was expected. I was surprised by some of the answers but there were a few that I assumed he would answer along the lines that he did. I really liked his answer for who he would spend a whole day with because he had really thought about it and he had a good reason to want to spend the day with Mac Miller. His answer also made a lot of sense because he has a huge interest in talking about music and artists that he enjoys listening to. Gabe seems to be so interested in music to the point where he could probably start a conversation with someone talking about music. He never seemed hesitant to answer anything throughout the interview and also had a sense of humor at some points which made it fun to interview him.
