One mistake I have previously made, was driving to my buddies house with my 5 week old puppy, Rhett, in my lap. I was the only one in the car with the puppy. We had gotten to my bud’s house to show him the puppy. He came outside, played with the puppy a little bit, and talked for a bit about how we were doing. It was getting around 8, and the puppy was falling asleep, so we said our goodbyes and headed home.
I was driving my dad’s truck at the time, and we were just moving along, and a car was driving in the middle of the road. I had the puppy and my lap and all I could think about was to not hurt this 5 week old puppy. I tried to go around the car, and hit a mailbox with the mirror of the truck. I then pulled over and checked the puppy and the truck. I was a bit shaken up, and I was shaking a little bit, which made the pup scared. I had to bring myself together because the dog started shaking and crying.
We then drove home and I told my dad the whole situation. Obviously he was gonna be pissed, but we were both safe so he was okay. My puppy is now 3 months old, and almost throws up or pees everytime he is in the car to go somewhere. What I learned is, it’s better not to drive distracted and how important it is to pull yourself together.
