Is social media good or bad?

I believe as a student and a person who works in an office that social media can have it’s pros and cons. Many companies have the right to go on your public social media site and look at what you post and someone who posts on facebook about their kids have more of a chance of getting a job than a person posting inappropriate pictures of themselves and others. That I believe can be a con but again also a pro because this can help a company narrow down their best candidate for a job but before social media people could just go by their abilities, work ethic, background check, and etc. 

Some good things about social media is that you can connect with family and friends that may not live close to you and or are afraid of the pandemic. Many times I have used to talk to people around the state that I go to the maine fairs with. If I did not have facebook, instagram, and snapchat I wouldn’t know much about what was going on with them. This makes it easier to make plans with people especially when I want to meet with a friend that lives hours from me. I don’t have to try and plan it 3 months in advance when I see them in the summertime. Some other pros is it can make it easy for your job search because sites like facebook. I did look for my job on facebook this past fall as a bank teller and this made my job search easier , I could also do my application right online as well. 

Some bad things about social media is that false things can be spread very easily, for example when some of the things that have been happening on the news get spread very easy on social media and you know how it goes when one thing goes to another and another and another that’s when things get twisted and things are wrong. This can also make it hard to get a job because say if you are posting about politics and the person wants to hire you but then decides that they don’t want to because you have a different view as you and are not a “fit”. It sounds wrong I know but you would be surprised at how many people actually do that. 

These are all good and bad things about social media, it can be beneficial but can also be bad. You just have to learn how to work around it in the world we live in now. Yes I wish we could all unplug because we would all get along so much better but that’s not the case we have to learn to live and deal with it to get through our days.
