Mistakes, everybody makes mistakes. Every single day people are making mistakes throughout the world. Whether people make up for or learn from their mistakes is questionable but for those that do. They learn from it and don’t make the same mistake again. So many people make up for their mistakes and accomplish great things that’s why I believe learning from these mistakes is so important.
Throughout my life, I have played sports on a very regular basis. Starting when I was 4 years old I took up playing football. this took over my life at a very fast rate. I was always an advanced player for my age group as I definitely made it known that I was on the field at all times. I was always the captain every other year once the older grade moved up and I was the older grade on the team. It was a great feeling and everyone respected me so I definitely showed some attitude at times. Coaches were a little flexible with it as I was young and they understood that I don’t completely understand how important respect is at the high school level. When I finally concluded my rec and middle school football career I quickly found out how important respect was at the high school level.
I entered my high school career as a 13-year-old freshman ready to work and see how I could compete with the 18-year-olds who have been working out and playing for the last 3 years. I made an impact in a very short amount of time as I was announced as a starter before the regular season even started. This is when I made my mistake. On the third day of double sessions, I was being pushed by the coaches very hard and one comment from the coach and I slipped up. “Whatever coach”. I promise you this was not the correct statement for Coach. Tons of yelling breaks out and there’s a Gatorade bottle flying past my head and at that moment I really understood what I had just done to myself. I was kicked out of practice faster than you could possibly imagine. After a stern talking-to, I was back on the field the next session and ready to get back to work. I remained in the starting lineup but my respect level was completely different. After a very long season, I had learned my respect back from my coaches and I was more respectful than ever. Thanks to that mistake I made I became a better person and learned a lot about respect. and I am beyond thankful for that.
This past year I completed my senior season and it looked way different than my freshman year. I was named captain for my team which meant so much to me. This showed me how much I really meant to my teammates and coaches and that they had enough respect for me and trust in me to vote on my captain position. As a senior captain, I took it as my responsibility to make sure all underclassmen showed respect and I certainly made sure they knew if they didn’t show the respect someone deserved. Just recently I have been nominated to join the Lobster Bowl senior all-star game. I am honored to be in this position and I don’t think I would be able to be in this spot if I didn’t make my most memorable mistake. The moral of the story is, don’t be afraid to make mistakes because you’ll never know what will come from a simple mistake.
