Is Texting Better than Calling

As technology starts to grow more people are starting to lean more towards texting rather than actually communicating on the phone with each other. There are advantages and disadvantages to both like one is faster but the other one is more clear. The younger generation definitely texts each other more than they call. As the younger generation starts to grow up texting more than calling might be an issue with their professional lives. However, things do evolve so texting might become the new norm as the younger generation starts to grow up and take over the workforce. Both these things have their positives and negatives but the question is which one is better?

Let’s start out with texting. Certainly over the past 10 years texting has made huge leaps as technology grows but is it the better option? There are certainly advantages to texting such as it is a lot quicker to text and you also don’t have to set up a certain time to text because you can text and reply whenever you want. But certainly a big concern about texting is that people can read what you said in a tone or way that you didn’t intend it to sound. This is obviously a huge problem if you are texting for a job and you sent a text that someone took it the way. In my opinion, for mainly this reason, calling is better than texting during your professional work life. However, it is different if you are texting your friends and family. There are certainly instances that you should call rather than text, for example an emergency but besides some reasons why you should call rather than text them there are more reasons to just send your family a quick text. Even if they take what you texted the wrong way they are your friends and family so you can explain to them what you actually meant whereas in your professional life you may not get that chance.

Talking on the phone or calling someone is starting to be used not as often as it used to be. As technology keeps evolving, calling someone starts to get less and less used. I feel like calling is the better option in your professional and work life if you can’t talk in person because it is the closest thing to talking in person. Calling is easy to understand what people mean whereas texting can be misinterpreted easily. However, when it comes to someones personal life it is about personal preference whether they want to call or text more. I prefer calling when I need to tell someone something because there is more meaning behind it but there are also instances when texting is the easier option when it is something simple. This topic of calling or texting is only going to get more and more known as technology evolves but I feel like texting should not be the main way people communicate in their professional or personal lives. I hope that people realize there is something to actually hear someone’s voice and tone when they are trying to communicate with them rather than just sending them a text. There has to be a healthy balance for both.
