Call or text?

Everyone has a phone nowadays and most people use calling or texting to communicate with others. Some people prefer texting and some would rather talk on the phone. Some advantages of texting are; it is instant and faster than phone calls, However, there are disadvantages to sending text messages. Misunderstandings are very common when it comes to texting, texting and driving could also occur. There are many advantages and disadvantages to both of these ways of communication, but no matter which one you like better, they are both great ways to talk to other people.

When it comes to talking and texting I feel like texting is more common for younger people and older people prefer talking on the phone. Texting can be very convenient and I think that it’s more used in your personal life. It’s a lot easier to text your friend “on my way” rather than calling them on the phone and waiting for them to answer. Also text messages get read. Even if you don’t click on the message or respond, you will still get the notification and the message will be read. In spite of these benefits, there’s a lot of disadvantages to texting. Text messages can be misunderstood so easily. From the article “12 Disadvantages of Texting” it says, “The sheer brevity of texts, coupled with a lack of verbal tone, facial expressions, eye contact, and body language make it very easy for misunderstandings to occur. People responding to texts in a brief fashion or with one-word answers can also easily come across as curt or rude without intending to be.” (“12 Disadvantages Of Texting ”) You can be calm and someone could take it as if you were being mean or rude. Texting and driving happens a lot, especially in teens. Having hands free calling while driving is so beneficial.

People have different opinions when it comes to talking to someone on the phone. Most of the time phone calls are used in a professional setting. If you have to call out of work, you would most likely call your boss, hence the term “call” out. When talking to someone on the phone, there’s no misunderstandings. Some people also don’t like waiting for a response. Disadvantages to phone calls are that there could be noise interference, also the other person you want to call might be unavailable or busy.

To summarize, texting and phone calls are used daily and whichever one you prefer there is advantages and disadvantages. Texting is instant but it can lead to misunderstandings and texting while driving. Calling on the phone can be personal and there aren’t any misunderstandings but both sides of the call have to be available. Either way, these are both great ways to communicate and stay in touch, especially nowadays.
