A few decades ago, there was no such thing as “text”, as it was either a call or nothing. But with new and incoming technology over the years, calling became more advanced and texting was introduced to the newer generations. Texting is a fun and convenient way to get ahold of your friends or family. However, calling can be seen as more interactive, personal, and even a nicer gesture than texting. Since texting has been introduced, it only brings about one issue: which is better?
Knowing which method of communication to use ultimately depends on the situation. For a more professional approach (colleges, employers, elders, etc.), calling is seen as the more appropriate solution rather than sending a text. But for informal conversation, texting is the way to go.
Personally, I don’t have a strong preference for one or the other, but there are times where I would rather use one over the other. When making plans with friends, discussing job-related items with my boss, talking with a grandparent, or having a serious conversation, calling is my preference. But, when having casual conversation with friends or family or informing my parents about snippets of my day, I would much rather use texting. It is all about personal preference.
