Getting a head start to college planning could be a good thing for people like me who like to procrastinate everything. It would give students more time to really think about what they want to do with their life, some might decide early on that they do not want to go to college, while others will explore different career paths they might want to do. Some students who don’t think about college until senior year can get overwhelmed by the amount of things they have to do. Each year during high school they should have you sit down with your guidance counselor and talk about what you might want to do after high school so that you have to think about it, that way you are not starting to early or too late. Some schools make students meet with counselors every year, so they stay connected. If they were to make you start thinking about college a little early you would be in a better position than people who think about it around junior or senior year.
If you procrastinate everything and have no idea what you want to you should sit down with a parent, guardian or your guidance counselor to talk about it because they most likely have had to think about college before. If you are a middle schooler, I wouldn’t stress about college until you are around a freshman in high school. Most middle schoolers are not going to know what they want to do after they graduate so if they waited longer they would have a better sense of what they want to do. If schools did projects about what future jobs they want that could encourage them to think about college without making them overwhelmed. If students were to start thinking about college around freshman year that would give them plenty of time to start planning without burning out. Some high schoolers know what they want to do by the time they start ninth grade while a lot might not, if guidance counselors were to start helping students with college around ninth grade it would make them feel more secure by the time they were a senior.
If schools were to help students with college without making them stressed a lot more people would end up going to college. If there was someone who made students sit down and think about college and what they want to do they would be less stressed by the time they are done high school. Even though some teachers will ask “what do you plan to do after high school, they don’t really ever go into detail about it and make you really think. All schools should have you sit down and talk about life after high school before you graduate. That way all students have had to think about it, and they are prepared for when they graduate.I believe that you shouldn’t start preparing for college to early, I would wait until about ninth grade that way you still have a good amount of time without burning out.
