Everyone who has possibly lived could tell you a story of what they have done in the past and how it has affected them. I however have not done anything too noteworthy, I always think to try something new but normally chicken out before getting there. I have taken the time to go out and buy things to start a new hobby and then end up giving up before I even start, let me tell you something do not start painting with no experience, you waste a good amount of time and money. I could also tell you that cooking is a scary experience if your timer is the fire alarm. I have failed countless times but I still feel as if nothing I have done is too note-worthy.
So the question I ask today is what makes an experience noteworthy? Is it what happened? The people you are with? Or is it simply the fact that you had a good time? I was a homebody throughout a lot of my middle school and most of my high school years, I never tried new things and I never fully cared to. I know to a lot of people graduating high school is a noteworthy and an amazing experience, but I also think it is simply high school and I am forced to be here… I am not saying that to put anyone down because it is still a very momentous achievement, we have spent so many days of our lives in a school building it should feel like a second home at this point. And I still do not feel like high school is going to be my note-worthy experience, yes you can make lifelong friends but you can also lose the ones you thought were always going to be there but that’s life right? Well, I am making it my goal to get my note worthy experience, this year I am traveling as much as possible and saying yes to more crazy plans I want to have new experiences and be confident when asked “What’s a story that you have that you can learn from? Can you all in this room think of that experience? I hope not we have our whole lives to live.
We are the next generation of politicians, teachers, nurses (etc…) there are so many great things and achievements we still have and every single one of them will mean more than the last. What I am trying to say is we should celebrate this goal briefly because we all have a lot more to come. As we all take on the next chapter of our lives we can take our small goals as a win, but do not think of them as your last goal in life.
