To start off, I would just like to say congratulations to everyone for graduating high school. This hasn’t been easy for any of us. I know for myself, that when we were freshmen, I thought four years was ages away. I had so much time left in high school. We were new to the school. Small fish in a big pond if you will. We were trying to find ourselves and our place in the school. Then, after a long first year of high school, we hit sophomore year. It was going well for about half the year then BAM! CDC says we got a pandemic and it’s time for you to stay in your house for too dang long. A little irony here, but COVID is a very serious thing. However, I can thank COVID because it is the only reason I passed geometry. But, the rest of sophomore year flew by because we would hop on our laptops for a total of an hour a day for zoom classes and then do nothing for the rest of the day. We get into our junior year, where things get semi-normal. Most people are back at school at least two days a week. I remember I wanted to be in cohort C that way I could come to school 4 days a week. The only reason I did this is so I was productive. I like to do something I call productive procrastination. This is where I know I have other work to do but I’ll do 15 minutes of Membean instead and call it good. I went to school so this didn’t happen. But, I remember sitting in chemistry class on Thursdays and Fridays and not doing a dang thing. I would sit there, bored out of my mind like I was watching paint dry on a wall. Because I was at school 4 days a week and only did something half of the time, it was literally my easiest year of school ever. Now we are onto senior year. The top of the school. Everyone has senioritis and is ready to get on with their life. Everyone is stressed out about college and graduation. All the teachers are like, “this is senior year, you need this to graduate!” Yes, we know we have been here for 4 years. But then, we finally won homecoming and spring fling. That was 4 years too late if you ask me. Now we are at present day, where I am still turning in work right up until the end. Thank you math and thank you English.
My point here is that high school flew by. For me, it put into perspective just how fast life can move if you don’t appreciate things while they are here. I took it for granted when I was a freshman just how much time we had. If you think about it, we only for 2 real years of high school. This makes me appreciate the present and what I have now more than what is going to happen 4 years from now. I am not saying don’t look at the future ahead because it is important to have goals. But, enjoying where you are now and what you have, will give you a greater appreciation for the present.
